Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly said on CBS Friday that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) won’t appear on his show.

“He won’t submit to an interview with me. He will not. Christie will not. He just won’t do it,” O’Reilly said.“So, I can’t tell you policy-wise how versed he is because I’ve never seen him under that spotlight. He’s going to have to get under it, whether it’s me or somebody else, but he has not come in.”

In October last year, O’Reilly said he thinks there’s a “personal” reason Christie won’t appear on his show.“Chris Christie doesn’t like me,” he said. When Christie was asked by a reporter before why he won’t appear on the show, Christie simply said:“Because I don’t want to.”

We’ve requested comment from Christie’s office.

"Why should I do an interview with Bill O'Reilly of FOX news and hurt my chances as a running mate for President in 2016",Christie says." You can see what a bang up job they did for Mitt Romney".

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie could face a strong challenge not only from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if he seeks the presidency in 2016 but also from his own party, a new NBC News poll reveals.

The survey of 1,003 adults released Tuesday, shows Clinton with 44 percent support, while Christie trails at 34 percent.

Neither Clinton nor Christie have formally announced their intentions for 2016, but both are considered their parties' top contenders.

“We’re so frustrated with all this Christie talk we can’t see straight,” Kentucky tea party Republican Scott Hofstra told The Times.“He’s no more conservative than [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid."

Clinton, meanwhile, would likely benefit from many of the same demographics that helped put President Barack Obama twice. The NBC poll, for example, revealed that Clinton would beat Christie by a huge margin among African Americans, 83 percent to 4 percent. Young 18 to 29-year-old voters also chose her by a margin of 45 percent to 31 percent, while Latinos favored her over Christie by 44 percent to 33 percent.

She also polled well among white voters, by a 41 percent to 37 margin over Christie. Among seniors, she drew 44 percent support to his 41 percent. And among more affluent voters making $75,000 or more annually, she had 46 percent support to 34 percent for the governor.

Marco Rubio, Caving on Immigration

This was supposed to be Marco Rubio's big year. Back in February, the junior senator from Florida made the cover of Time magazine -- billed as "The Republican Savior."

The supposedly rising star was proclaiming himself ready to lead on the thorny issue of immigration. Rubio's name was often mentioned as a 2016 Republican presidential candidate. Now conservatives and liberals alike are disappointed in him. What happened?

The real Rubio stood up. Instead of being ready to lead on immigration, he's running away from it. He's shown that he's not a team player. The GOP's former golden boy has unmasked himself as an opportunist whose most consistent commitment is to his own ambition.

Don't feel bad if you're not sure what Rubio's position on immigration reform is, because that changes a lot. In January, he criticized President Barack Obama for doing "absolutely nothing" on immigration. Two months later, he warned fellow senators not to rush immigration legislation. Although he was a member of the bipartisan Senate "Gang of Eight" that unveiled a comprehensive immigration plan in June, which includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, Rubio has since abandoned that proposal

OH, PLEASE, NOT THIS AGAIN

I've searched for Gettysburg at the archived White House website of President George W. Bush, and it turns out that Bush never spoke there as president either.

Were locals "stunned" by that snub?
...
Saturday, November 19, 1988,{Gettysburg's 125th Anniversary] President Ronald Reagan gave a Thanksgiving radio address with no mention of Gettysburg, signed a bill on procurement fraud into law, and appeared on videotape at a roast for Chicago sportscaster Harry Caray. He also issued three proclamations: one "to implement changes to the harmonized tariff schedule of the United States," one commemorating National Family Week, and another commemorating National Home Care Week.

No, he did not go to Gettsyburg. In fact, Reagan never went to Gettysburg as president.
...
In fact, the Adams County Historical Society maintains a list of presidential appearances at Gettysburg, and only three presidents in the last half-century make the list: Nixon, Carter, and George W. Bush.

This is an idiotic faux-scandal...

6 Reasons Why Obamacare Enrollment Is Going Better Than You Think

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that between 40,000 and 50,000 uninsured Americans signed up for health care coverage in the 36 states where the federal government is running the Obamacare exchanges. But the initial estimate doesn’t tell the whole story about how many people are connecting to coverage. Here is what you need to know about the enrollment figures

More than 500,000 have signed up for insurance overall. Avalere Health, a consulting firm tracking sign-ups, estimates that at least 440,000 people have signed up for Medicaid and another 49,000 people enrolled in coverage in 12 states and the District of Columbia that are operating their own exchanges. Significantly, that state number don’t appear to include enrollment from California, Massachusetts, or Oregon. Thus, all told, more than 529,000 have enrolled in coverage.

GOP About To Hurt Itself Again!: New Ploy To Kill Obamacare Will Blow Up

Starting on Jan. 1, votes to repeal Obamacare will become votes to take health insurance away from a lot of people. Just how many people will depend on when the votes take place (assuming they take place at all), and when Healthcare.gov is finally up and running. But repeal votes will cease to be abstractions. They’ll be deeply relevant to hundreds of thousands of people. And because politics don’t always obey the laws of entropy, it’s safe to assume that Democrats will characterize past votes for repealing Obamacare as if they’d taken place in 2014.

Which is why the GOP’s latest tactical assault on Obamacare merits so much attention. It underscores how unviable the repeal platform will be by the time Republicans have the power to enact it. And it even suggests repealers have so successfully blinded themselves to the positive consequences of the Affordable Care Act that they can’t see how badly they’re now undermining their own campaign.

The Huge Obamacare Story You Aren’t Reading

Today it’s a few hundred thousand people. By next year, it will be at least a few million. Their health insurance status is changing dramatically: What they have in 2014 and beyond will look nothing like what they had in 2013 and before. For many of these people, the difference will be hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year. In a few cases, it may be the difference between life and death.

You probably think I’m talking about the people getting cancellation notices about their private insurance policies. I’m not. I’m talking about the people getting Medicaid. Both stories are consequences of the Affordable Care Act. But one is getting way, way more attention than the other. It’s no mystery why. Stories of people losing something are more compelling than stories of people gaining something.

From the AP:

Medicaid Is Health Overhaul’s Early Success Story

Often dismissed, Medicaid has signed up 444,000 people in 10 states in the six weeks since open enrollment began, according to Avalere Health, a market analysis firm that compiled data from those states. Twenty-five states are expanding their Medicaid programs, but data for all of them was not available.

“Medicaid is exceeding expectations in most places,” said Dan Mendelson, Avalere’s president.“It is definitely a bright picture in states that have chosen to expand.” Starting Jan. 1, the law expands Medicaid eligibility to those with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level —$15,856 for an individual or $32,499 for a family of four.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that 9 million people will gain coverage through expanded Medicaid next year, with another 7 million signing up for private coverage through the online markets

Republicans are the real lying liars on Obamacare

Noble lies have in many ways defined the debate over the Affordable Care Act, but the vast majority of them have been lies conservatives told in a failed effort to nix reform.

Death panels are the most famous such lie. Another is that Obamacare is destroying the economy, creating a part-time labor pandemic and a major obstacle to recovery from the great recession. A third is that it will blow up the debt.

A fourth, also still with us, is that Obamacare is a stalking horse for socialized healthcare.
...
the right’s been given a complete pass for feigning concern for people whose coverage has been canceled, when their own reform proposals are an order of magnitude more disruptive.
...
Lying is bad. People shouldn’t lie. But on this score, just ask yourself whose descriptions of Obamacare were closer to reality: Obama’s or the Republican Party’s?

It isn’t even a close call.

Obamacare honesty on a spectrum

One could write a book – a fairly long one, at that – about the scope of Republican mendacity on the “Obamacare” law they love to hate. Indeed, the lies have been so numerous and so sustained for so long, it’s hard to even know where to start.

Jon Stewart, who’s criticized the Affordable Care Act many times in recent years, told viewers this week,“Yes, the president was somewhat dishonest about the promise of his healthcare program, but here’s the weird part: his opponents have been lying like motherf***ers about its effects.”

.
I find the notion that the president “lied” about the health care law pretty silly – at worst, he oversimplified a complex issue in a way the right is now exploiting because conservatives have nothing better to do – but even if we take the claims at face value, there’s no question as to which side of the political divide has been more honest about the basics in this debate.

Mental Health Parity

That this health care breakthrough is a long time coming doesn’t detract from its significance:

The Obama administration on Friday will complete a generation-long effort to require insurers to cover care for mental health and addiction just like physical illnesses when it issues long-awaited regulations defining parity in benefits and treatment.

The rules, which will apply to almost all forms of insurance, will have far-reaching consequences for many Americans. In the White House, the regulations are also seen as critical to President Obama’s program for curbing gun violence by addressing an issue on which there is bipartisan agreement: Making treatment more available to those with mental illness could reduce killings, including mass murders.

…. It’s easy to grow weary with unprecedented obstructionism blocking legislation on Capitol Hill, but once in a while, we’re reminded that progress is still possible.

Former 60 Minutes Producer Mapes: Benghazi Story Aimed At “Obsessed” Right-Wing Audience

Former 60 Minutes producer Mary Mapes, who was fired for her role in a controversial 2004 story about President Bush’s service in the Air National Guard, accused CBS News of pandering to a right-wing audience with her former program’s recent Benghazi report, for which the network has been criticized and forced to retract.

“My concern is that the story was done very pointedly to appeal to a more conservative audience’s beliefs about what happened at Benghazi,” Mapes said by telephone from her Texas home.“They appear to have done that story to appeal specifically to a politically conservative audience that is obsessed with Benghazi and believes that Benghazi was much more than a tragedy.”

Supply Meets Demand On Benghazi

…. the reporter, Lara Logan, has long expressed righteous anger that the killing of Ambassador Chris Stevens hasn’t been avenged. So Logan had a personal agenda that nicely merged with her personal interest in getting a big “scoop”.

…. Lara Logan brought the supply and Lindsey Graham brought the demand and a bill of goods were sold. Graham and other Republicans, of course, can now simply argue the dubious report “raised questions,” and that’s all they need for more wallowing in the “story.” An apology from their supplier isn’t enough.

From Business Week:

Here’s The Real Reason People Hate Their Individual Market Health Insurance

Unlike people on Medicare, Medicaid and employer-based insurance, people who buy coverage in the individual market know exactly how much they’re paying for it. A plan that you would only rate “fair” when you have to pay $5,000 for it might merit an “excellent” if its apparent cost to you were only $1,000. Almost all of us should be dissatisfied with our health plans, because the American health care system involves paying twice as much as people in other rich countries do to achieve similar health outcomes.

People love their employer-provided coverage because they have no idea how much it’s costing them. One of the reasons I like the disruptions created by Obamacare, and wish there were more of them, is that many of them involve exposing the true cost of American health care to consumers.

The law requires employers to start reporting the cost of employer-sponsored insurance on W-2 forms, so people know how much of their compensation is eaten up by health insurance. Successful health reform should bring that transparency to other parts of the market. That will make the public angry — not because they’re being made worse off, but because they’re finally realizing how bad they’ve had it all along.

One of the lies listed by Dan the Man surely is no lie. I work two parttime jobs. More and more employers, especially big retailers, keep you parttime forever. That way they can avoid paying benefits like a health plan. With so many unemployed or like me parttime they can get away with that. The laws, and that includes Obamacare, must be revised.
