Here are the average spending increases per year in raw dollars (not adjusted for inflation) in descending order by president:

President
Fiscal year baseline
Last fiscal year
Average percentage increase per year

Carter 1977 1981 16.4
Nixon 1969 1975 13.5
Johnson 1964 1969 11.0
George W. Bush 2001 2009 10.2
Reagan 1981 1989 8.6
Kennedy 1961 1964 7.1
George H.W. Bush 1989 1993 5.8
Clinton 1993 2001 4.0
Eisenhower 1953 1961 3.6
Obama 2009 2013 1.4

So, using raw dollars, Obama did oversee the lowest annual increases in spending of any president in 60 years.

Why does Obama spend so much according to Republicans ?

Figures don't lie, but liars figure.Reagan did more deficit spending than all presidents before him combined.Bush 41 didn't, but he had only 1 term.Clinton had balanced budgets and a surplus. No deficit reduction. Bush 43 did more deficit spending than all presdents before him combined.Obama has more deficit spending than all presidents combined. This is the Snowball Effect. 1.6% of Trillions is more than 8.4% of Billions.

Your analysis fails because real estate taxes benefit only local government, while disaster aid comes from federal taxpayers.
Low-lying areas of New Orleans should be abandoned to nature.
I see your point. We should not rebuild natural disaster areas but relocate those people. Spend a dollar now to save 100 in 20 or 50 years.

It must be nice for you to live in an area where no natural disasters happen that you have no need for federal assistance at all.

So you won't mind that if you get hit by one, the nation will abandon you to "bad luck", right? I'll assume you are covered by free market, private insurance.

'"E Pluribus Unum" be damned' should be the national motto, eh?

Did the federal gov't aid the victims of the Kansas Dustbowl in the '20's? Did they survive? And yes, they you should be covered by free market, private insurance. Or rather, ban private insurance and pay it to the gov't, as they can cover you more fairly and efficiently.

You do realize that the Dust Bowl was a result of unregulated farmers trying to fulfill the "dream"? Work hard, get big reward.

And the result was a Tragedy of the Commons on a national scale.

I tend to shy away from any discussions about agricultural subsidies because I'd rather pay a farmer a little now not to till every piece of land to fulfill a free market dream than risk another Dust Bowl event.

And, tell me. What happens to the private insurance companies when they run out of money in the event of another Dust Bowl? Who is going to pick up the slack?

You get to pay more taxes on the bailout while the insurance company execs spend some money on advertising telling you the government is awful.

Socialize the costs, privatize the rewards is not capitalism.

Associated Press:

Applying for benefits under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul could be as daunting as doing your taxes.

The government's draft application is now on the Internet.

It runs 15 pages for a three-person family.

The online version has 21 steps, some with added questions.

At least three major federal agencies, including the IRS, will scrutinize your application.

That's just the first part of the process, which lets you know if you qualify for financial help.

You'd still have to pick a health plan.
