Full story: TwinCities.com

While a large pack of Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidates has roamed across Minnesota for months clamoring for attention, the state's third and smallest "major party," the Independence Party, has yet to field a single credible contender.

The role of the Independence Party of Minnesota is a challenging one but important to the future of our democracy. They have provided ballot access to independent leaders who have improved the political debate not just in the governors race but also in local elections.
The independence Party gives voice independents who want a government who exercises fiscal responsibility and is socially inclusive. People who want policies which encourage personal responsibility. Who believe Government should be controlled locally when ever possible. People who want to elect political leadership that act for the grater good and prepares us for the future.
Keep in mind this young political party has competed on the fraction of the budget the other two major parties operate on because they have refused to take special interest money. Also organizing Independents and providing a voice for them will always look different than organizing those willing to claim a political banner. Independents are not so willing to be boxed in by a call from a pollster.

They should outlaw third parties. 2 are enough. Smart people know which party to vote for and it does not start with an r.

What does it take to be a "credible contender"?????? Let's see... Candidate must be willing to sellout to special interests, raise taxes and/or increase the deficit, grow the government bureaucracies. oh yeah, an put the radical party agenda's ahead of the Constitution.

I like the mix that Independent canditates throw in the mix. I get tired of the dem/repub crapola, so when there is a third in the mix it makes it interesting. I am not talking about your Bill Dahn/Sharon Anderson perenial candidtates, but somebody who does have some credible ideas and concepts.

Mr. Melendez is absolutely on target. The IP is nothing more than a spoiler, and will only be that in the future. Jesse "The Crybaby" Ventura was an anomaly. That type of incident will never happen again. But if we are not careful, the IP could cause another instance of a King Timmy where now one wants him and he gets into office by default.

So, "Smart" people should let the Republicans and Democrats continue special interest group (Money) approach to charting the course for our state?

I think we need more parties to bring some honest discussion to the process.

Call them fees, call them taxes. Why do you think propery taxes are going sky high? They are going up due to Pawlenty's policies.
Who paid for the two stadiums? Who will get the next stadium? Who benefits greatly from this welfare for the wealthy? Not the working man. But the working man got his pittance tax cut. Try and guess what the cut was for the Pohlads.

There are powerful forces at work in a relationship today, and they'll have quite an impact on you. If you're with that special person in your life, don't be surprised if there's a lot of sexual tension between you that manifests as irritation and bad temper. You'll probably have a huge row and then have a very enjoyable time making it up.
