I was very glad to see the column about staying in the Minnesota Republican Party, because I also believe that it's worth working with the party to restore our republic .

"What makes these people think the money belongs to them? " Silly Don, it's the same thing that makes the government think your hard earned income belongs to them!

Terry Hartman: what a thoughtful, wonderful letter (amid some really nasty ones, without substance). We all can be that great neighbor, or thank a great neighbor, for their contributions. As I get to know my neighbors in downtown St Paul, I feel for the first time since I was a child a sense of community. Everyone's contributions to a neighborhood makes that area what it is, and conversely, a lack of contributions also makes that area what it is. Thanks for your contribution, Terry!

During the senatorial campaign and the aftermath that followed, Norm Coleman was accused of being in lockstep with and the lapdog of the President. I presume we will now have more of the same.

Not a single one of the letters regarding the Franken/Coleman race should have been printed. Every one of them is either "hurray, my guy won" or "pout, pout, pout my guy lost and the sky is falling"

Whatever. All of those discussions were had monthes ago. I can't believe the Pioneer Press couldn't find more interesting letters to publish. It's as lame as publishing all those letters that say "if you like taxes so much then volunteer to pay more" that we see like once a week.

Three people judged this as "Clueless", and two judged it as "Spam"? Are you freaking kidding me? Apparently recognizing the good in others, particularly those who have passed on, is to be frowned upon. Whoever judged Mellers's comment that way, you are truly without a shred of class.

There are trolls that pass through here that tag the writer, not the content. There is no accounting for some people's kids.

I know what you mean. All those letters that say, "the rich should pay more taxes" are pretty lame, too.

Since retiring existing bonds is decreasing the obligations of the bond issuer and thus the taxpayer, paying off the bonds is giving the money back to the taxpayer. Bonds are paid for from operating revenues of projects or from tax revenue. Decreasing the amount of debt improves the ratio of debt service (payments) to cash available to the issuer. Asking for a check is like getting money back at the closing of a mortgage. This is how our governments and households have accumulated so much debt over the years.

Getting in under budget is very good thing, paying down the total debt of the isser is even better.

It is also interesting how the "winners" are still so, so angry...

Hmmm, not me. My guy won and I'm pretty darn happy. I actually don't know any of us winners who are angry. Maybe you should watch those generalizations...

Thanks, Fan of Common Sense. Your nickname fits you well. Having posted for over 2 years, trying to remain fairly balanced, willing to see the other side, provide personal examples to back up my opinions if I don't have facts, seem to drive some people crazy. They're not intelligent enough to actually come up with a reason as to why they don't like what I wrote, but will "spam" me anyway. I'd love to have thoughtful discussions with those who "spam" me why they disagree with my post, but I guess the anonymous "Meller haters" is better than the not-so-anonymous trolls that I can't seem to get rid of.

Anyone have any troll-spray? I'll give it right back after I use it!

LOL Yeah, I've seen some of your "fans" responses to you! While even I have raised an eye brow regarding some of your posts,(and I think we're on the same side of most issues), I like your open and honest approach!(-:

I'm going to Bayfield tomorrow/Saturday-I've never been, and I'm excited! Grilling with family on Saturday, and volunteering for the Taste of Minnesota on Sunday. Free meal tickets, baby!!

Have a safe and happy weekend!
