I wish some drinking, gambling, and some all-around lawlessness would make a comeback in Deming.

At least, back then, Deming had a future.

'twas more out in the open then, instead of quietly hidden behind the doors of city hall and county court house.

Most of the 'stories' of Deming's past are just that--Stories, born in the minds of journalists, who embellished their writings to the point of bneing absurd, like Michael Moore does today. They are both entertaning and profitable, but have no basis in reality.

Both of my Grandparents lived in Deming around the turn of the century, so I was blessed with actual stories of Deming's real past, where armed people were far more pleasent of each other than they are today.

For 'real' stories of this area, read James McKenna's "Stories of the Black Range", available in the library.
