"Several friends and family members of Popov left dejected after the hearing. When asked how he was doing, Tagingstva said, "Bad, really bad. It's like half his life is over, like half his life is gone" because of the prison sentence to which he agreed last year."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

Half of HIS life is over? Michael's WHOLE life is over! The life his children knew is over. What a selfish thing to say!!! Whoever said that should be slapped across the face and their mouth washed out with soap. What an ignorant waste of space.

And what about Mr. Moore's life? It's entirely gone. Bravo to the judge for not granting the motion.

I always find it interesting how 2 people can have the same thought at the same time, even down to the same quote from the story. Great minds must think alike, Just Me.

And with time off for good behavior (if he IS good), he'll spend, what...9 or 10 years? By that time, Mr. Moore's children will have spent half THEIR lives without their dad. And who knows what their lives are like now....the dad had full custody, so I'm assuming there was some issue with their mom....but now the kids are back to living with her. I hope everything is okay for them. They're the true victims in this.

No. They can't. Once he gets citizenship thats it.

He must have gotten it at a young age, prior to his DUI's or they would have shipped his borscht eating butt back to Moscow.

And trying to break a plea agreement? NEVER happens.

Just ask Larry Craig.

<I'm tapping my toes while writing this.>

If judges started rescinding plea deals the judicial system would absolutely, no-doubt-about-it, grind to a screeching halt.

That was the long shot of all long shots.

Are you sure? The story only says he's a repeat offender, it doesn't say how many times. If it was only once before, would they have deported him? It's not that I doubt you, it's just that I have so little faith in our "justice" system, especially when it comes to immigrants. Our government has gone out of its way to accomodate Russians (especially here in Sac), so I can't see them deporting one.

He's not a citizen and the crash was 18 months ago, so he was 25 or 26 when he killed the man. Also, he was a repeat drunk driver at that time. As far as I'm concerned, he shouldn't even be here.

If he is not a citizen, when he has completed his prison time, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be at the gate to pick him up. They will transport him to a holding "pen" in Arizona and when they have enough Russians to fill a plane, they will be flown back to Russia, open the doors and they can all make a new life in their mother land. The same stands for all non-citizens convicted. The Arizona place is where they are held until there is enough of whoever,(i.e., India, Russia, where ever)to fill a plane then it's bon voyage. Not so with misdemeanor crimes, but this was a whopper, so back he'll go after his prison time. Hands down.

Are you serious? Why do we even waste our taxdollars imprisoning them if that's the case? Why not just deport them as soon as they're convicted, and be rid of the problem?

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Virgo

If the December sales are calling you, you'd better work out a budget before you leave the house. Otherwise, you'll be tempted to use your credit card first and only consider the cost of your purchase later on. Even so, you could track down some great bargains now, provided you don't get carried away and buy items that you don't really want simply because you're astonished by the amount of money you'll save in buying them. But you'll save even more money if you don't buy them!
