BOE K-8 budget

There are rumors being circulated via email about what will supposedly happen if the budget is voted down tomorrow and the Township Committee then reviews the budget. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU HEAR/READ. These rumors emanate from the BOE itself (although they would nver admit it) and are designed purely to scare parents into voting 'yes'. The main rumor is that the TC will cut as much as $5 million from the budget, decimating programs, etc. THIS IS A LIE. The TC has no current plans other than to have an auditor experienced in school budgets review it in an OPEN, FULLY DISCLOSED process to see where cost savings and efficiencies can be realized. The BOE President herself said at a recent meeting at BAC that the TC could cut up to $5M, which is why I know it came from them. But there is no basis for this and the BOE and/or its closest supporters (those who vote yes no matter what, without any analysis or scrutiny whatsoever) know it. Nevertheless, they are trying to scare you in to voting for a budget that was prepared behind closed doors and without any input from parents or the public. The email I reference also threatens "class sizes as high as 35"... again, this is MISINFORMATION without any basis in fact.
Look, I am no expert at such things but I am immediately skeptical when a budget is prepared in back rooms and is not seen by anyone until it is final. Maybe the budget is as lean as they claim. But we have no way of knowing this for ourselves; we have nothing but the BOE dog-and-pony show. I want to see a genuine, open discussion, which is what will happen if the budget is voted down. I am confident we will see a productive discussion that will result in a better budget. The time is now to tell our BOE that we are entitled to full disclosure, and the only way to send that message is with a NO vote.
