JESUS DID'T GET INTO THE CAR DRUNK, THIS GUY DID. DID YOU KNOW THE VICTIM? WHO GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO JUDGE A WOMAN THAT WAS KILLED BY A DRUNK? NO ONE DESERVES TO DIE BY THE HANDS OF A DRUNK. YOU PEOPLE IN NC ARE USED TO DRUNK DRIVING. HOW ABOUT IF HE KILLED YOUR MOTHER OR YOUR WIFE, BUT IN YOU WORDS THEY WOULD HAVE DESERVED IT, RIGHT. WOULD YOU STILL SOUND AS STUPID AS YOU DO NOW? IF HE WAS A MESSENGER FROM GOD, THEN FOR THIS ACT GOD WILL PUNISH HIM.

I know Peter for 30 years. He is an honest, kind, loving and generous man. He is also a great father. I spoke to him right before the accident, dictionary meaning, mishap or casualty, happened. He was fine on the phone and absolutely not drunk. He has pneumonia and was and is on medication. Police found the cough medicine on the front seat of the car. Also, he was definately not on drugs and does not do drugs. The blood tests will prove that he had 1 drink and cough medicine in his system. It is tragic and unfortunate that this has happened. For some reason God wanted this to happen. My heart goes out to the injured and deceased families. But this was an accident. <quoted text>
SO GOD WANTED VICTIMS LIKE KATIE FLYNN TO DIE? DID THAT 7 YEAR OLD GIRL DESERVE IT? IT IS NOT AN ACCIDENT, IT IS MANSLAUGHTER.

It saddens me to see how narrow minded people can be towards a situation that has nothing to do with them. To judge a person on one mistake is irrational and ignorant. I do hope the people injured are ok, and that Peter is not punished or judged to severely

A MISTAKE THAT TOOK A LIFE. DRUNK DRIVING HAS TO DO WITH ALL OF US. OUR CHILDREN, PARENTS, ETC. IF HE IS SUCH A DEDICATED FAMILY MAN AND CARES FOR HIS CHILDREN/WIFE, THEN HE WOULD HAVE CARED ENOUGH NOT TO DRIVE IMPAIRED. BUT HE DID, AND THAT SHOWS WHAT KIND OF RESPECT HE HAS FOR HIS FAMILY AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS. SO MY PITY IS FOR HIS FAMILY WHO HAS TO LIVE WITH SHAME OF DAD/HUSBAND/SON TAKING A LIFE BECAUSE OF THE CHOICES HE MADE. WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND.

the comments about pete being a murderer i DISAGREE STRONGLY. Peter Vono, is NOT a murderer, he arguably could/could not have been drunk. For all you who think he was drunk which he wasnt drunk people do not know what he was doing. Peter Vono's children especially the child entering eighth grade is a very nice kid who does absolutely nothing wrong, he always behaves in the proper manner. My prayers go out to alll the family. God wouldnt want you to be as cruel as you are, you must remember that his family was a God tied family, and God forgives. God would want you to forgive this man for a terrible accident. My prayers go out to the familys who were hurt but mostly to the Vono family. Your friends will always be there for you.

I know Peter vono and his family. And they are the most interesting people I have ever met. They are the kind of people that would give you the shirt off their back. Pete has always been there for his kids, and for anyone else who has needed him. He is a loving, caring, and nice guy. Yes, he made a bad decsion. And sometimes when you choose to do something wrong, there are consequences. But honestly, he's the kind of guy that will learn his lesson the first time. In my opinion, I think he should be charged, but not severly. Because I know Pete, and he just wants this nightmare to be over now and get on with his life. This has been hard on his family, especially his children, and I just hope soon, it will blowover.

kind of hypocritical to see it from one side. i'm sure lots of people are real sad that some slut died in a car accident.... but with the misprint stating it was a dwi, the popularity of this incident is giving that whore more attention in death than she deserved. peter vono is a great dad and that has a lot to do with the subject. if you are too retarded to see that, then hopefully the next time somebody gets hit by a drunk driver, its you.
What if that "slut" was your mother/daughter? For you to say anyone deserves to die, you need help. You say he is a great dad, but now that he killed someone, he will be a great dad behind bars. My hearts go out to Vonos kids & wife for the shame of their father killing someone.

No matter how passionate you are in defending your uncle's honor, there's absolutely no reason for you to resort to the language you've written here.

There was nothing honorable in driving under the influence of medication OR alcohol. There are always warnings specifically and clearly stating not to drive or use any type of machinery while taking medication, especially cough medicine. This is advertised on TV, you hear it on radio programs, you read it in papers and magazines, and on the product boxes and bottles themselves. Your uncle knew this and he choose to take that risk any way. This was the clear choice he made, and even though he probably made this choice many times before, this time it caused someone their life. His decision caused much pain for many, many people. People involved directly with the accident, people indirectly reliving memories of lost loved ones under similar circumstances, and the people with in his immediate family.

I can read from your writing abilities that you are intelligent and not a child of tender years. You are mature enough to understand and comprehend these facts. I'm sure your uncle feels devastated about this whole situation, knowing this nightmare will never completely end for him, but that's something he'll have to cope with on his own and in his own time.

It's wonderful that you love your uncle as deeply as you do, however, you equally need to understand that no apology will ever be given to your uncle no matter how you may feel he was wronged by the press or people posting their opinions. These are the facts, and you'll never be able to change or manipulate them into the manner you'd like. Those who are compassionate understand all too well the emotions running rampant under the circumstances. We are empathetic to the suffering of all connected with this terrible twist of fate called an accident.

I pray for healing for everyone. God bless you and all those involved.

FACT: HE DROVE IMPAIRED(OK .COUGH MEDICATION) PS: MANY PEOPLE EVERY DAY DRIVE AFTER THEY TAKE COUGH MEDICATION, AND THEY MANAGE NOT TO KILL SOMEONE.

FACT: HE HIT 4 CARS(COULD HAVE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES BEFORE HITTING CAR#2,3&4)

FACT:HE OWNS AN AUTO BODY SHOP IN WHICH HE SEES FIRST HAND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DRIVE IMPAIRED AND THE DAMAGE IT CAUSES.

FACT:HE TOOK A LIFE. A MISTAKE THAT HE WILL HAUNT HIM FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

I PRAY FOR BOTH FAMILIES, BUT VONO MADE THE CHOICE THAT NIGHT. THE VONO FAMILY IS KNOWN IN TOWN AS A GREAT FAMILY, AND MY HEARTS ARE WITH THEM. BUT MY HEARTS ARE ALSO WITH THE DEAD WOMANS FAMILY, FOR PETER MAY GET ANOTHER CHANCE, BUT THAT WOMAN NEVER WILL.

OH AND BY THE WAY....HOW DOES A PERSON "GET CAUGHT OFF GUARD AND NOT NO HIS SURROUNDINGS"?

SHEZZZE HE WAS HEADING DOWN TO THE BRIDGE ON HIS WAY HOME A ROAD HES HAD TO HAVE TRAVELED THOUSANDS OF TIMES SINCE THERE IS ONLY 3 WAYS INTO LONG BEACH

BUT YOUR RIGHT...HIS ABILITY AND JUDGEMENT COULD NOT POSSIBLY BEEN IMPAIRED AFTER ALL IT WAS ONLY NARCOTIC GRADE COUGH MEDICINE ... GET REAL HERE... THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THIS GUY HAS SAID THE "WHAT IFS" MORE THAN A MILLION TIMES AND THAT HE PROBABLY IS A VERY NICE PERSON..BUT THIS WAS NO ACCIDENT THIS WAS A RESULT OF A CHOICE HE MADE,A CHOICE WITH THE MOST HORRIFIC OUTCOME IMAGINABLE FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED

BUT SMART ONE....JUST BECAUSE HES A "NICE GUY" DOSEN'T MEAN HES ABOVE THE LAW FOR THE CHOICES HE MADE AND THE RESULT OF THAT CHOICE.

I PRAY FOR HIM, HIS FAMILY, AND FOR THOSE WHO ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE SUFFERING FROM THIS TRADGEDY.

you didnt know what really happened in the first place and you had the nerve to talk.after the accident, he went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a possible walking pemonia, which was news to everyone in the family.the accident showed the first signs of it.It's not his fault he was on his way home from a hard days work when it happened.he couldnt have controlled that.and if he was falling asleep, how the heck was he supposed to know what was going on, regardless of the fact that he had traveled the route many a time.(think of being woken up in a mid-nights sleep and feeling dazed.)I'm not saying he's above the law, but jail is simply out of the question.that woman is in a better place now,and she will be missed.he must live with this life-controlling diagnosis and the tragic outcome of it.

once again, nobody knew the truth in the first place, and now that that bit of information is out, people still have room to talk.it's one thing to state an opinion about something, but the accusations on false information is out of line.i feel it my duty to tell you all what really took place that day.

i know what it's like to have someone taken from your life when your not ready for them to go, please understand that.but it hurts my heart to know that so many people can judge a man in the terrible situation he is in.

my family have been the ones getting the calls and updates for this tragedy, so i can assure you when i say my information is more reliable then what you will here on the news, internet, or newspaper.

when i first found this website, i was very angry at what people were saying, and my previous comments were out of anger, but now i know that i'm really writing all of this so that the world will know the truth and not be so quick to judge.reporters can be cruel and dramatic with things.i hope the family members of the victims can see this and maybe be a bit more at ease about it, even though this message doesnt have the power to bring her back.

SMART ONE this is a direct quote out of Newsday
"After the crash, Vono was given a field sobriety test and, under a court order, had blood drawn for alcohol and drug testing, said Det. Lt. Michael Fleming, Nassau's Homicide Squad commander"

An innocent man would not need a court order for blood testing to prove his innocence An innocent man would have used a broken piece of glass if need be to get that blood on record....

Guess we all just have to wait till the jury's in.

That quote is very true, i wont deny that, but do they state what the results were?or do they expalin why a court order was needed? No they didnt because they came back NEGATIVE.he did the field sobriety test immediatly but he didn't want to take blood at the scene of the accident. He later took blood willingly elsewhere with medical physicians, which also came back NEGATIVE.there was in fact no alcohol or illegal drugs in his system.Just because he wanted to leave the ferocious scene doesnt make him any less innocent of being intoxicated, because he wasnt.Either way he wasnt guilty of what everyone accused him of.Like i've previously said, reporters never tell the whole truth.so theres the truth.Maybe it will make it in the paper soon for a change, rather then the half-truth they decide to publish.

I have been reading these comments since they started and swore I would not repond. I cannot hold back anymore. As to the people who are writing mean and evil things about the victim, you are not worth responding to. I was at the victim's bedside in the hospital the whole time while she lay with no brain activity in a vegetative state with so many machines keeping her alive. Her intestines and diaphram were crushed into her chest area. She had a lacerated liver. She had a hole in her lungs. Her pelvis and both hips were broken. Her jaw was broken. She could not breath at the scene and EMS had to put a breathing tube in her neck. She had no blood pressure and her pressure was kept stable with meds. She had practically no body temp. She had internal bleeding so bad that there were tubes coming from her body that flows the bad blood out. Her body was 4-5 times its normal size from swelling and intenal bleeding. She was unreconizable to the people who loved her. She had to have hours of emergency surgery to reconstruct all her vital body organs and them put them back where they belonged in her body. Peter Vono hit the first car then the second car then the third car which hit a fourth car and then he hit Roni pushing her into the lap of her twin sister who was the passenger and who held her while she couldn't breath until EMS arrived and had to pry the door open. Guilty or innocent, alcohol or narcotic, you decide if a person in their right state of mind can do this kind of damage. Her family and friends will never ever get over this tragedy that came to a beautiful person who only helped people and her patients and had her whole life ahead of her. As for Smart One, you said your cousin was in the car and dropped off just before the accident. He should count his blessings.

A CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND,
I admit my jaw dropped when I read the exact conditions of her after the accident.I'm deeply sorry for it all. It's a terrible way to die.I know what it's like to have someone die in front of you.I thank god everyday that my younger cousin is alive and well. But please try and understand my uncle was not in his right state of mind, he may have a medical issue that's news to the fmaily, so it's like he was being awakened from a sleep. It's just the signs of it happened at the wrong time.It hurts me just as much to see that half of these people commenting don't know the whole truth about the situation whatsoever.my uncle peter really had no control,he tried to stear out of the way when the crash started but his bearings were severely impaired.i know the pain still remains within your family, but i hope this can make you feel a little bit more at ease.i hope you know now that he's not a drunk murderer like the papers make him out to be.i don't believe him to be above the law either, i just feel that jail is out of the question ,when a real murderer or rapist elsewhere should be in his place.I also thank you for not speaking out of anger, for when i found this website, i was angry too and stood up for my uncle so that everyone knew the truth. Now you've done the same, and i respect that, for now i understand and know more then i did.
