Poor misquided idiots. Flood insurance doesn't cover basements or lots of other things that could get wet at or below ground level. The whole purpose of the new maps is to have people in Long Island pay significantly more for the same insurance to cover all those other areas of the country where the money is paid out. Anyone can buy flood insurance - the maps only allow for setting of the rates to a higher than base level if you are in the zone, and where in it.

It is not 180000 homes but aproximately additional 30000 with will make total around 60000.
Thouse are homes in high risk area.(1% chance) Thouse are the homes which will be most likely damages if strong nor'easter or hurricane cat. II hits Long Island.
Base flood insurance covers structure, you need to purchase the content coverage also.

By suddenly saying 180,000 homes that never flooded and were never in flood zones now require insurance, the Feds are simply adding a new tax to Long Islanders.
Another reason to leave this place.
It called legally robbing you, immoral yes it is!

Where is an investigative report from Newsday or New York Times etc. Making this ripoff transparent to the public?
