$40 an hour for clerical work and a "Cadillac health plan"-- are you serious? That's over $83,000 a year in wages-- plus bennies-- you're talking a six figure yearly expenditure for a clerical worker. Over twice what the average teacher makes. No wonder these companies are forced to take jobs overseas.

if your striking for more, than I hope you end up homeless!! if your striking to keep your jobs and make them remain here and staffed with legal employees than "TAKE THEM TO THE MAT" Just keep in mind, we are in a depression and your lucky to be working.

i KNOW some of these people, they are not just worried about outsourcing - they are trying to do as slow a job as possible so that more of them get hired and they really have the lines (who've taken a bath the last few years) by the B***S. at my line, there no longer exists customer service (due to the fact that the union employees know that they work for the UNION and not the "line"). wish i had a nickel for every customer that's been treated horribly......I'd be as loaded as a OCU
"clerk"!!!!
(someday you should mention their pension plan - it'd really upset some people)

These employee unions have got to go. There are a lot of people who would be willing to work at the current salary and great health care plan.

What really grips me is that some of these workers are known to be illegals. What aren't they doing proper background investigations.

Show me their value and I may show them some support. On the surface, more union extortion. Let them strike. I need to pick up more foreclosed rental property and bargain prices.

The ports bring all this foreign crap in our country and unemploy an american. Now we have a mess and the ports help send all our money to china. When china builds their commi military jets, ships, troops and weapons we will see the product of all this hard work at the port. Beside the smog they are distroying our country all at $40 and hour. Remember the city gets a per cent of port profits and thus is paying these employees with lost funds. If they go on strike we all win. Close the port and get rid of the friggen smog, trucks and traffic. Where did buy american go?

If you drive a foreign car, have foreign tv's, electronics and other junk and now unemployed... you did it to yourself. See if the foreign countries will help you...

Greed is the source of all evil. It's a riot that a bunch of 19 year olds out of high school make that kind of money and haven't a clue what they do.

I've worked as an OCU clerk and they sit there all day long and read magazines for 90 grand a year and benefits. Give me a break! When called in as a temp, unless you are someones relative you do all the work while the full-timers talk, play on the computer, etc. Most of these people are uneducated. Not all of them, but what is coming into these jobs now should be making minimun wage. They are only being hired because their mommy or daddy work as an OCU.

A strike by 600 workers can impact the jobs and lives of over half a million Americans who earn a living off the Ports of LA/LB. It also would have a huge impact on the rest of the US economy, as we saw in 2002. The ILWU would have to support an OCU strike, so ships would sit idle. Just mentioning a threat of a strike shows you the mentality of the OCU officers. Here is what the companies say on their joing website: http://harboremployers.com/web/news/press/det...

There sure is a lot of class warfare in these comments! We as Americans are falling right into the trap the multinational conglomerations have set for the middle-class, divide and conquer, and then let them fight over scraps! Let the companies roll back the pay, but at the sometime roll back the cost of living too! If they cut their pay in half, cut their mortgage in half, those banker got trillions of our dime, and our grandchildren too!

Union employees are making 45% more than their conterparts in non-union jobs.
http://www.cato.org/pubs/tbb/tbb-59.pdf

Let them walk off the job. Let all union employees walk off the job.

Unions are killing America!
