Here we go! Is our future bright Jordan HS students safe? That was next door to a high school just after school dismissal. Was Long Beach School Police around making sure students were not the intended targets? Peace in the 90805.

Although I wish everywhere to be safe, I want to correct a few facts. Jordan dismisses about 2.5 hours prior to the incident. If students were the target, the shooting would have happened at 2:30pm and not 5pm.

Cops cant be everywhere. They are there for about 45 minutes after dismissal. After that, 90% of the kids are gone....

Judge on our spelling and grammer, Yes I do believe you attend Jordan High School. I do not think you qualify as a student Peace 90805 was talking about. I believe there's only 5 students out of 3,200.

The tobacco free thug people rule our taxpayer funded city parks. That this latest shooting "just happened" to be near Houghton Park comes as no surprise to the hard working minority of Long Beachers who are forced to pay our burdensome taxes.

Should the thug shooter be caught, let's hold off passing judgment on him (a good, but disadvantaged rehabilitatable "youth") until his fellow thug people have the chance of telling us what a good guy he is. The little fellow just needs a second chance, and a little understanding by the community of his "culture".

I'm also a student at Jordan. Many of us have evening high school, and were at school. What if one of the bullets reached school grounds?

Your right Jordan has two dismissals. The second being at 2:40 PM. The article does not give a race or age on the victim. The shooting is not going to happen at 2:40 because of the school police in the area. I agree cops cant be everywhere. Good thing it was after if not imagane the damage. The rest of the 10% hangs out at the skate park smoking Marijuana...they do not really count...that's collateral damage.

Sadly, this is just another reflection of the type of community we live in. I think these types of situations are kinds that we cannot prevent, no matter how hard we try. No matter how many police men we place around the perimeter of the campus, people are going to continue to carry on with their ways regardless of their surroundings.
I also attend Jordan and have an evening class that only goes on Mon & Wed. And it's nerve wrecking to know that this could have happened on the day that I have night school and I or anyone else could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So are you saying if more people smoked tobacco we would have less crime?

I am not a despotic Big Government potentate or one of their taxpayer supported running-dogs who wish to recreate society in their own image, using the tried and true method of demonizing decent hard working women and men in order to get Government's foot in the door in order to to dictate and regulate every conceivable aspect of our lives.(for purposes of increased Government control as well as increased opportunities to "justify" imposing oppressive taxation on ordinary folks - the vast majority of whom are decent hard working overtaxed non smokers)

Because I lack Big Government tyrant credentials, all I can do is to make the self evident observation that, when decent women and men could smoke beneficial tobacco without interference by Big Government's beady eyed running dog anti smoker zealots,(elderly 60s 70s era druggie activists)(hippies) our little children did not go about killing one another just for the Hell of it.

I am surprised there weren't shots fired back. I used to between Houghton and Deforrest park back in the early to mid eighties and there were always shots being fired. I hope it's not still like that and that this was an isolated incident.

Someone got shot...I think you just wanted to show off the fact you know a few $50 dollar words. Yay for you!(claps) Ever heard of the saying "What the fuck does that have to do with the price of rice in China"? Yeah well it applies to your response. And yes, this does too...yay for me!(claps again)
