Hi Steve, I was with the 53rd trans Bn for awhile. They had a 83rd trans Co. but don't remember a 84th. the 53rd bn headquaters was in Kaiserslautern, Germany. And it was a part of the 37th THTCommand, Headquatered at Saran, France. I have a chart of the different BN & Co, with the 53rd & 37th. If your interested let me know & i can send it to you. What year was your Dad with the 53rd ?
You can contact me at ifishaldy@yahoo.com

Carl,I did a bit of researching and my father was assigned to the 84th Transportation Co,53rd transportation Bn USAREUR ? does that make sense or ring a bell?If I recall correctly he used to take us kids to the armed forces day celebration on the base at Toul,I do recall riding in an APC and getting to fire an M-14 with blanks of course. We arrived in country approx. mid year '62.Our first "accommodation" was some dive french hotel with a community bathroom and tub down the hall,we hid our hot plate on the window ledge as the "madame" did not allow cooking in the room.Next was a 4 story house on the economy then finally to Regina Village.I was at the hospital at jeanne d'arc because my appendix decided it wanted to act up,they shipped me to Metz or Verdun(can't remember for sure) to have it removed. His post was there at jeanne d'arc.Being so young I don't recall anything about Polish guards but I'll bet my mom will so I'll call her and ask if she remembers anything concerning them.I believe the exchange was 5 francs for a dollar, does that sound right to you?

HI Bryan, I got to Fontenet in January 1960. I don't remember a football team, although we had a soccer team, a basketball team, a little league team, a boy scout troop. I have a facebook page APO259 Fontenet France. I have posted some pictures of the base as it looked then and now and also have some pictures of the 83rd Engineer Battalion personnel. I have also started a web page which you can link to from that facebook page.

Hello everyone, I am looking for information about an American soldier based in Captieux from 1959 to at least 1962. My grandmother dated an American at that time and we think he can be my mum's father. If you know about it, could you please respond to my email address fleurdepau@gmail.com. Thank you very much and have a nice day everybody !
I was stationed at Captieux from May 1960 to February 1962. I was the company clerk and I remember some of the men's names who were stationed there during that time. My email address is uscfranki@verizon.net if you would want to get in touch with me.

Hello to all to follow upon my book on the American camp of CAPTIEUX, you could say to me if there were Polish guards on Bases in Germany???
I suppose that YES, because a Polish guard coming back from Germany in 1958 committed suicide in the Garonne in Bordeaux, while he(it) got back the American camp of Bussac-ForÍt.
THANK YOU
I was stationed at Captieux from May 1960 through February 1962. I recall that we had Polish Army guards at Captieux and I recall going to their club on the base as they had "piwo" and kielbasa sandwiches which I enjoyed. If you would want to get in touch with me my email address is uscfranki@verizon.net.

I would like to see comments from anyone who was at camp de loges in 1963 to 1965. Also anyone at maison fort 1960 to 1963. I was a truckdriver m 52s at maison ft. We hauled all over france. We would go to other terminals switch trailors then went back to our terminal. I also drove buses at camp de loges making scheduled runs to the Etoile in paris with stops at bel manoir, housing areas and stops along the route. Also drove out of the bel manoir motor pool Which were mostly school runs and field trips for students.

Hi Bryan-- good to here from you. You must have worked in Shop 4- I was in the magnaflux section which was in a shack behind shop 4. Later on )probably after you left)we moved into the back bay in shop4 and they tore the shack down. Have many fond memories of my stay there.

I was at the Major Signal Relay Center, Saran, Jan. 1960 - Mar 1962. Was wondering if anyone had current photos of the present-day site of the Center, the barracks area and the airfield? Thanks.

My Dad was in the Air Force, and we were stationed in Chambley, France in 1962-63. My sister and brother (twins) were born on New Year's Day 1963 at the hospital in Toul. I have been to the base a few years ago, it was so sad as it mostly has been left to ruin, but every two years they have the Mondial Balloon Festival there, and supposedly there is a plan to make an industrial park there. I was very young, but remember a family in the trailer next door to us with the last name Hood. The Dad worked on the ambulance as it was he who helped get my folks to the hospital the snowy night my siblings were born! If anyone has any connections to Chambley please write and let me know! Thanks!

Hello Philippe, My father was stationed at Braconne 1963 to 1966. I attended the first grade at the military base school. I have often thought of returning to visit this area someday. I still can remember living there as if it were only yesterday. We lived in a beautiful house on a hill beside a sheep farm in the town of Angouleme. My email is rainesjms@yahoo.com

As an 11 year old my mother and I would take those military buses (were they Army Brown or Air Force Blue) at the special stop signs in St. Germain en Laye, flash our passes and go to Camp Des Loges to the BX. I have not been back but it is all I think about. Thank God for Google Earth which lets me retrace those days anyway.

Elie, those buses were the brown ones. They were somewhat like the city buses here. On a schedule at certain stops at the same time. There were also express buses that ran to and from the etoile with very few stops. I also drove buses from bel manoir which were mostly school runs toand from the school at garche.
