Hi:

My name is John Cross. I was stationed at Braconne from 1961 to 1963. I have some pictures of Braconne which I took during this time. I also returned there last year and made some more pictures of the some of the abandoned barracks.

Kent, As you can see, we share the same first name. I was stationed at Braconne from fall of '60 until spring of '63. I was in Hq & Hq Co and worked in Personnel. Most of the time was in
charge of the pay records section. What is your brother-in-law's name? I might remember him. I
have a few photos from there. My email is:

My father was a Chaplin at Braconne from 1959 - 1962. We lived in La Rochefoucauld for a few months before moving to base housing. I was only 2 years old when we arrived. My brother was born at the base hospital in Bussac.

I WAS STATIONED AT BRACONNE FROM JUNE '57 TO AUGUST '58. I WAS CO. CLERK OF DET "A". LIVED IN THE BARRACKS RIGHT NEXT TO ORDERLY ROOM. I RETURNED LAST SUMMER (50 YEARS TO THE DAY, THAT I FIRST ARRIVED) FOUND THE BUILDING.. VACANT.. IN GREAT DISREPAIR..RECOGNIZED SOME OTHER BUILDINGS.. THE DEPOT LOOKED LIKE SOME KIND OF INDUSTRIAL PARK. STOPPED IN POITIERS, ANGOULEME, RUELLE, LA ROCHEFOUCALD, & LIMOGES...WHERE DID 50 YEARS GO?

I was stationed at Braconne from 1960-1963. I served with Chaplin Schroeder and lived near him in the base housing. (Steve Schroeder comment Mar 26.) I returned there in the 80's and walked through the abandoned Officers Club, Headquarters and other buildings. I stayed in the Hotel de France in La Rochefoucauld as my family did when we first arrived in France. Simon and Pierre, however, were no longer there. I have many fond memories of those three years.

Hi: I was age 4-5 and lived in France in 1957-59. My father was a Captain on an American Military Base there. I have some vivid recollections however, I have been trying hard to piece together where specifically we lived as both mom and dad are deceased and their records were destroyed in a flood in '69.

Dear Celtic,
I attended SHAPE school at Chateau d'Hennemont in Saint Germaine-en-lay in 1959-1961. I was 5 at the time. I'm doing the "piecing together" thing as well. Sorry to hear your records were destroyed.

We were stationed in Paris at Camp De Loges from 61 to 65. Lived in L'Etang-La-Ville, St. Germain en Laye on Rue Tiers and the last two years on Rue Turgot in SGEN. My siblings and I attended Paris American Schools also.

I remember having Cherry Phosphates at the American Embassy in downtown Paris....and summer camp outside St. Germain somewhere. We went on summer field trips to a Club on the River (the Seine?) called La Plage. We crossed the river on some type of small ferry to get to the pool and club. Great memories as a child.

School field trips to Paris all the time....what an experience.....along with family vacations across Europe. Every Friday was movie night on base....where I met Vincent Price and James Bond and Cary Grant on the movie screen. Sunday brunch at the officers club....the best cake I can remember.
We used to go on family outings to the woods filled with Chestnut trees and bring home bags of chestnuts to roast in the oven. And Mussels steamed in white wine.....and pomme de terre frites in brown wrapping paper at Paris flea markets.

I have tons of slides of Paris and Europe....dad was a big photographer.

Does anyone remember "La Plage"? Where it was exactly?

I was stationed at Braconne from 1960- 63. I have some photos from this time ( I was in Det. A). I also revisited this area last October and made some pictures. The camp is now in ruins but I think I recognize the barracks where we used to live. I also visite Angoulême, La Rochefoucauld and Montbron (where my wife and I lived for two years.).
Would like to hear from you.

My grandfather was American. It was in a U.S. base in December 1960 to Abancourt. If agreed, knowing that seeks to know you. Go to Neufchatel in France 76.
