Only 180 DAYS in jail? My opinion: this Thomas Toledo guy sounds like a pathetic creep, and dangerous. They need to increase the animal cruelty penalty by a decade....or two...or three.

50$ fine and a strong verbal reprimand seems most appropriate imo.

Who is ignoring child abuse? I am a mandated reporter of child abuse. We are talking about a completely different subject. Child abuse is dangerous to society where as animal "abuse" is not.

"Because of the interest in early identification of children at risk for later violent offending, it should be noted that cruelty to animals may be one of the first CD symptoms to appear in young children. Parents’ reports on the emergence of CD symptoms in their children mark 6.5 years as the median age for onset of "hurting animals"—earlier than bullying, cruelty to people, vandalism, or setting fires (Frick et al., 1993). That study reinforces the importance of considering animal abuse a significant early warning sign for identifying youth with potential for receiving a CD diagnosis.4 The diagnostic value of this symptom is also supported in a report by Spitzer, Davies, and Barkley (1990), which was based on national field trials for developing DSM–III–R."

"Arluke and colleagues (1999) reviewed the files of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and located the records of 153 individuals (146 males and 7 females, age range 11–76 years) who had been prosecuted for intentional physical cruelty to animals (not passive forms of cruelty such as neglect). A comparison group of 153 individuals (matched for age, gender, and socioeconomic status, but with no record of any cruelty-to-animal complaints) was selected from the same neighborhoods in which those who had been prosecuted resided. The State’s criminal records were reviewed for each individual in both groups. Any adult arrests for violent, property, drug, or public order offenses were noted. As shown in figure 5, individuals prosecuted for animal abuse were more likely to have an adult arrest in each of the four crime categories than the comparison group members. The differences between percentages for abusers and nonabusers were highly significant (p<0.0001) for all four types of offenses. These results make it clear that animal abusers are not only dangerous to their animal victims but also may jeopardize human welfare. "

What is your point? It is a bunch of research that studies people with mental disorders. The findings suggest that those with mental disorders have a history of animal abuse. That is different than people who abuse animals having a mental disorder. The 2nd part you quoted is the most interesting. I have attempted to locate the original study but have been unable to find it. Unlike you, I have performed and understand how to interpret research. The Mass. study hasn't been peer reviewed and published and also hasn't been replicated meaning that it isn't scientifically validated. The results also show that animal abuse isn't predictive. Drawing morbid pictures is infinity more times likely to produce a school shooter and yet has nearly zero predictive value. I wish you understood research methods. If you did, you wouldn't be saying things that aren't true.

actually, there isn't any evidence to support this contention. The reality is that everybody has callously killed some kind of living creature. It is completely normal and so far, has not been linked to predicting future violence to adult humans or children. Your assertion is simply false. If you have evidence, please provide a link! Thanks!!!

:sighs: You don't understand how science works. Science makes predictions and attempts to validate findings. It does not assume things and relationships exist until it is proven that they do not. The fact that you said this shows that you are ignorant regarding the basics of science. According to your logic, God absolutely exists as does Russell's teapot.

Why would I talk to the FBI? They don't target people who abuse animals. They create profiles of known serial killers. The research you cited is excellent for profiling human abusers.

USA R0CKS.

I agree. Why talk to the cops? The taxpayer supported "youth" regularly choose unsuspecting White victims to play "the knockout game", AKA Polar bear hunting. The politicized cops can't even figure out the motive for such attacks, the number of which have exploded since Obama became president. One of these days the cops will slip up and charge a "White African player" with a "hate" crime. That will straighten out the "teens". It can be expected they will learn from their mistakes and cleverly avoid future charges of that more serious nature by also robbing their White victims after beating them senseless.
