Those bikes aren't retro. They're ghetto! This is 2012! A shopping cart from Target looks more technologically advanced than those shittious contraptions!
Who were the morons who okayed this?!
The Waltons laugh at you.

Godawful in every respect. Must weigh a ton, looks electric and oh yeah, "look at me, I'm riding a girls bike with a basket and fender skirts".

I was thinking they look like they were made in Mexico. Then I remembered, we ARE in Mexico!

We had to choose. Dying parks and crumbling sidewalks or barely used bike lanes. The choice was easy for City Hall. You don't get fancy Awards for nice parks and decent sidewalks.
You get a Photo Op when you squander millions of tax dollars on Bike Lanes whether anyone actually uses them or not.

It's all about the Egos in Lowenthal Land. We didnt' become pitiful by some accident. We voted to be pitiful.

What's up with the woman "volunteer" who was a major player in setting up our "bike friendly" infrastructure who is NOW a highly paid employee of the company who got the contract from the city??

Looks incredibly sleazy to me. Why isn't it being more thoroughly investigated???

Can you ride no-handed?

You need one hand to hold the Odessa and the other to hold your pants up.

According to their business plan, they are going to make most of their money on adverting on the "baskets and skirts".

They need to make $2.47 per day per bike. No way in hell.

And the city idiots fell for this?

It's not that simple. One of the current employees of the company used to be a Long Beach "volunteer" who helped lobby the city and orchestrate creating the biking the infrastructure needed for the company to get the city contract. City government is a sector all it's own, using free money with no responsibility attached.
Say all of this fails, as is likely. Suja Lownthal doesn't lose a penny out of her pocket, but the idiots with deep pockets she "helps" can pay her back her favors when the time comes.
