Smooth move. That should fend off bankrutpcy for six months tops. thanks. then the courts can make city hall privatize thousands of those jobs and return to sane pay levels which we can afford. It's a process.

Trust me. I don't like it either. No one does.
The politicians are the employers and they failed us all miserable. They didn't consider the impact of having so many public employees when the boom times ended.

Running the City is after all running a business whether we like it or not.
This is not a happy situation for anyone. Long Beach elect the same people over and over without much concern for positive out comes so it can only get much worse for every one.

You make a valid point. The Wagner Act, as amended by Taft-Hartley was never intended to include management in bargaining units.*(the very idea is preposterous)* Since the revolution, though, clever staff "Management" formed de facto bargaining units that "played footsie" *(so to speak)* by bargaining with Big Union Bosses to justify the increase of their own taxpayer funded salary and benefits packages.

After Big Government purposed to use hard earned taxpayer money to destroy peaceful homogeneous neighborhoods in order to create an even more mutually hostile and divided citizenry by giving taxpayer guaranteed "loans" to unqualified buyers of overpriced Big Government controlled homes, the entire financial house of cards fell. The result is the current worldwide depression, euphemistically called "recession" by the Government licensed "news" media.

Now, the increasingly impoverished minority of Californians who are still able to pay taxes can no longer afford to pay to support the heavy burden of dangerous tax eaters and the taxpayer supported Thug people along with their taxpayer supported Thug "youth".

It is always easier to focus on the unsustainable costs to the taxpayer of supporting the operators of this system while at the same time holding an outdated 1930's view of labor as heroic strugglers - a process Orwell identified as "doublethink". The plain fact is, though, that the Chiefs are relatively few, while the Indians *(so to speak)* are many. It serves no good purpose to address compensation packages provided by the shrinking number of taxpayers who are being impoverished in order to fund compensation packages to organized "Management" without addressing compensation packages meted out to labor.

Big Union Bosses continually lobby their politician pals to suffer increased property and tobacco taxes on increasingly impoverished ordinary worker *("middle")*class taxpayers, taxpayers whom they brand as "the rich". These taxes, though, are merely foot-in-the-door means of devising the increase of myriad other taxes, taxes that are then imposed on the minority of Californians who still pay taxes - the overwhelming majority of whom are NON-tobacco smokers.

Take some personal responsibility for this disaster.
Did you ask the politicians you voted for if they comprehended fourth grade level math? Did you bother to ask them if they were considering the LONG TERM impact of the commitments they made in our name?

I didn't think so. Elections have consequences. We all lost.

The place where I work is short 11 positions. Rather than fill those positions, which would increase productivity and reduce a huge backload, management proudly announced today that they will be hiring MORE SUPERVISORS! I kid you not. More supervisors to tell less and less decent, hardworking, tobacco chewing, plastic bag tax avoiding, bicycle lane despising, anti-Lowenthal voting, Thug People-stomping employees what to do. Whew! Beaurocracy at its finest.

Good points. I have friends who teach and tell me that Admin are wildly overpaid and double hired while hard working teachers catch all the crap for the union stuff.

People need to understand bloated numbers of paper pushers in admin and all those layers of unnecessary out of the classroom bureaucrats have earned unions their status as the Evil Empire not the rank and file Teachers.

Fire guys can be trained in a few months. Besides, if you lose a couple, plenty more will apply...

BINGO. No population in America is as political suicidal as California voters.

"Pay Up Suckers!" is the motto of the union funding operatives who pretend to be Democrats at election time in our State.

Most cops go their entire career and never fire their weapon.

Lotta faties. Cops should be fit or be fired. I don't want some lardo having a heart attack while he's about to wail on a homeless lady.

You have to realize Calif voters are morons who elect gangsters who see every one out to the unions. Public workers don't make nearly as much in States where the average IQ of voters is over 68.
