Recently, a misfortune—a vehicle breakdown along I-80—led to the good fortune and pleasure of meeting the good people of Williamsburg, Iowa. On 1 July 2009 our truck broke down while we were west bound on the interstate just east of Williamsburg. Our tow arrived in the person of B.J. from B.J.’s Towing. The problem, a blown clutch and cracked flywheel, meant a stay of 48 hours in your town. My wife and I strolled and lounged at the square and shopped at various businesses around town. We stayed at the Crest Motel. Everywhere we went people were friendly, helpful, and sympathetic about our predicament. A nice young lady at the Java Lounge allowed us to sit for hours and enjoy coffee and snacks (sorry, we can’t remember her name). The folks at the Crest Motel permitted us to remain in our room until early evening on July 3rd but did not charge us for the extra day. The work done on our truck at B.J.’s was first rate and we thank our mechanic, Mark (last name?) for his efforts to get us underway again. Every resident of Williamsburg has every reason to be proud of the sense of community and goodwill we felt there, and we salute you. Best wishes to all.
