N.H. shop claims ownership of 'steak bomb' sandwich

There are 154 comments on the Boston Herald story from Aug 29, 2007, titled N.H. shop claims ownership of 'steak bomb' sandwich. In it, Boston Herald reports that:

“I think whoever let this trademark go through in Washington, D.C., probably had never been to New England and didn't realize that every sub shop has a steak bomb”

Yet, one sub shop in Derry is trying to claim the sandwich as its own. At USA Subs, the steak bomb has been its No. via Boston Herald

Thanks Craig...or should I call you Cory, Raul, or Ricky. You are pathetic! Get a life! Two can play this game. You have too many problems you should be worrying about!

I will never eat at USA Subs. You can't own the phrase "steak bomb". Every sub shop I have been to calls their steak subs that. I think USA Subs is just jealous and trying to get their name in the paper is their way of trying to get business. They won't be getting my business or anyone else I know either. Get over yourselves.

I just want to thank the folks at USA SUBS for feeding me during the ice storm. I have been feeding my wife and I here everyday for the last 5 days. They are very friendly and prompt. I have power at my business in Manchester but still have no power at my home in Derry.

I really don't care who invented the Steak Bomb. I have eaten at both of the above establishments and don't care for either steak sub. In my opinion the best steak sub in the area can be had at T-Birds sausage cart in the Derry Traffic Rotary.. Nobody has a better steak sub than him...

I can't say who it was who first "invented" the first steak bomb, but i believe that my grandfather was the first to coin the word bomb for a steak and cheese sandwich. Bill Littlewood opened the Atomic Sub Shop in Lawrence, Mass. in the early 60's and later others including one in Salem, NH (which most remember) and he was the first to name his steak and cheese sandwich a "Bomb". He called it the "Atomic Bomb". This is the first reference that i can find of the steak and cheese being refered to as a bomb. Somebody else took the "bomb" name and since they couldn't call their steak and cheese an atomic bomb simply called it a steak bomb. Everyone has used it since.

Atomic Subs which used to stand about where the Burger King on Rt 28 in Salem stands now made the best "bomb" as Bob stated above. Presently live in Va Beach and the mention of a "Bomb" sub brings back great memories and tear to the eye that Atomic Subs is no more.

Atomic Subs was the first sub chain to have the steak bomb. They were at one time in the 60's and 70's the largest chain in the area. I managed one in Manchester and we made the steak bombs. Bill Littlewood was the owner of this chain of sub shops and they were awesome subs.
