Isn,t Kevin Riley and Mark Carson cousins and played together in high school. I heard they were tough in football in their younger years. I think Kevin should be in the hall of fame because he held several records in track and field. He also played college basketball for Sue Bennett under the lawyer Ken Sizemore. I think Sam Baker played also at SB aand he is in the hall of fame.
I think you are probably right, I will ask my neighbor who kept up with people in that age group when he comes in tonigh. I know Kevin Riley's name sure rings a bell - it's hard for any one person to know all the GOOD athletes from the Laurel County area because people were interested in sports at different eras seems like. If that Riley, is who I am thinking about, you are right, he needs to be in the LC Hall Of Fame.

I have also heard the Darrin McWhorter was a tenacious football player.
I remember his Sr. year, everytime you picked up a newspaper he was Player Of The Week, the Coaches were who voted on that. He along with the Williams kid (that played at EKU) were 2 from LC their Sr. year to receive the Tri County Player of the week award from the Corbin Time Tribune. My niece kept the articles, I just saw them in her scrapbook the other night, she graduated with them.

Someone told me that Mcwhorter, had all but signed to go to WKU, my niece said they courted him all year and then Union made a grand grab for him by a new coach that came in to Union the year he graduated and he went up there.

Doug McIntosh, last time I heard from someone in the area that knew him, said he was a Preacher somewhere.

Bobby Taylor, was a good Basketball player,(Guard) my Boss mentioned him last evening he played at London and Lily back in the late 60's, I guess.

Lonnie Edwards, was a good hind catcher at Bush. Someone told me at lunch yesterday that he and Kenny Davis maybe both tried out for the Reds baseball teams they thought?

The three greatest all around athletes ever in Laurel County (1) Richard Riley (2) Ernest Matt House (3) Chris Berry. These three excelled in three major sports (football, basketball, baseball) which now is rarely seen.

Harold Robinson, did the same thing back in the late 60's at old London High School, so say some at Weavers at Lunch time today. Glen Williams, did the same thing in the 80's according to my niece, not so unusual maybe? They were both pretty good at all three sports according to the up-town lunch crowd.

There used to be a committee that selected the nominations each year, someone from the Optimist Club, Sentinel Echo, Library, Rotary Club, Historical Society maybe, seems like someone at Lowes told me that one year after some nominees came out in the Sentinel Echo. Seems like that was about this time of year, or close to school starting back perhaps? I do not remember all the details. I know they have pics of people that are in it on display somewhere, because I have heard people talking about seeing them, but not even sure about where that set up is even. Anyone know?
