I notice post #1 states killed by 'rifles' and doesn't say killed by 'guns'. Gun violence is a major problem in America. Something badly needs to be done, and that means changes in our system concerning criminals and unstable people finding it so easy to get them.

But the NRA and anti-gun-law fanatics are even opposing improving things as simple and practical as improving background checking and states sharing data on criminals and mentally unstable people.

But enough people 'are' killed by assault rifles in mass shootings that something has to be done.

Why are assault rifles with large clips so popular with mass shooters, nutcases, street gangs, and dangerous groups like the Sovereign Citizens (which has ambushed and murdered at least six police officers in the last ten years)? Because assault rifles do what they are designed to do ..... kill as many people possible in the shortest time possible.

Very true, last time i checked hammers could be used for other things, there is no other use for an assault rifle but to kill, none.Even if you keep one in your house for protection ,how likely is it an army is coming after you? And if they are you may as well kiss your butt bye bye.

I have a question. All these big bad gun-toting macho-men that keep bragging about their concealed guns and how they protect people like me ..... In all the shootings just where the heck are you? Let a shot go off and ..... zip ..... zing ..... zoom ..... you're going out through the closest door so fast Usain Bolt couldn't keep up with you.

An assault rifle hasn't been used in any recent mass shooting.

Modern semi-automatic rifles are used by hunters all the time. Regardless, the 2nd Amendment was not put into place to protect "hunters" rights. It was to protect the right of every American to arm themselves.

To say the 2nd Amendment doesn't protect the right to own modern semi-automatic rifles is akin to saying the 1st Amendment doesn't protect the right of free speech on the internet or television.

National CCDW laws have prevented thousands of crimes. To say otherwise is speaking from ignorance. The way the question is phrased by Jenny is also extremely trollish.

And to question where the CCDW licensees were during mass shootings, one must point out that almost 100% of mass shootings occur in "gun-free" zones, meaning CCDW licensees are prevented from carrying guns. Perhaps had CCDW licensees been able to carry guns into theaters, shopping malls, and campuses these mass shootings could had been stopped with a lot less casualties.

Oh wait, that's right, the mall shooter in Oregon was stopped by a CCDW license holder.

One thing we do know, "gun-free" zones never stopped a criminal intent on murder from using a gun.

Not a "macho-man", but rather a 53 year old female school counselor.

Just one of thousands of prevented rapes nationwide.

An assault rifle sounds like a great weapon to have to engage multiple thugs.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the People to keep and bear 900 certain types of arms suitable for hunting and sporting purposes shall not be infringed.

Which is why, along with guns, men should not be allowed to handle or be near blunt or pointy objects without close supervision.

I'm easy to amuse and you guys make such great targets.

Did you hear there's a remembrance ceremony in Lexington tomorrow to honor the twenty children killed at Sandy Hook? They're doing it by selling more assault rifles to total strangers which come to hang out at their gun show.

What I said in my last post is not meant as a joke. Because it's not funny in any way. It's meant to make people stop and think. Because there really is a remembrance ceremony in Lexington tomorrow that's being held at a gun show. A gun show which 'does' sell assault rifles to total strangers.
