If a person claimed to be a "Christian" and then became and unbeliever, were they ever really "saved"?

Did The Holy Spirit actually dwell within them, and then was rejected?
Or were they melely going through the motions such as church, some bible study, some belief?

Could they have possibly been "reborn" having become One with The Spirit.
Although one may still sin, will they turn away from God once they have union with Him through The Spirit?

My opinion through my own past experience- NO!
There is a huge difference between being:
"One With Christ" and simply wearing the label of "Christian".

i know someone that is supposed to be an ordained minister than likes to have sex with a woman that is engaged to another man, and the fact that he's old enough to be her daddy, there are hypocrits that have been "saved" just like in any crowd

and just because someone says he/she is a Christian doesn't mean that they will never make a wrong choice, or do or say the wrong things,we are human we never will be perfect.

Maybe he's not actually "saved".
You can go through the motions, even a minister, unfortunately, without possessing and being One with The Spirit.

Also, the flesh is weak, sin is strong, and Satan rules this world.
Even those that are saved can fall, but generally we no longer wish to sin, and will not continue in that manner.

1 Cor. 6:16-20

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to a harlot is one body? for two, saith He, shall be one flesh.

17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therfore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

~Paul of Tarsus~

i'm sorry that we are often poor representatives of Christ, as we are meant to mirror His image, but still fall so short of His Glory.

Never look to man for perfection- look only to Christ!

i'm sorry to hear that.
i can relate- big time!!!

But that is man's doing, not God's.
We are weak, but He is strong.

Romans 8:17-18

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.

The future glory:

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

I was, Let me rephrase that Was a born again christian. I have back slid as they say. I still feel God with me everyday. He does not leave you. You leave him. The Holy spirit speaks to me often through my mind and heart.I don't think it leaves you ever. We just learn to ignore it. If you truly get saved. That is bringing yourself down to the lowest level of all levels and asking and meaning it with at your being for forgiveness. Afterwards knowing without any doubt that God has forgiven you. You will love your brothers and forgive them for things of which you never in a million years would have done in the past. You will be willing to go the extra step to get as close to and living right for God and live by his Holy Bible. Then you are saved and no body can change your mind. My parents once said that same thing to me. If you are not saved you never were in the first place. That broke my heart and made me angry enough to ask them how in the world could you say that to me knowing me at the time I was close to my lord. Well it still hurts but I can tell you I have more Christianity in my little finger then both my parents who still claim to be "GOOD" christians. I hope my story has helped you and maybe others. Some listen to what people say and others listen to their hearts....go with your heart and listen to the voice of god when it speaks though your mind...I still do. Maybe I can get what I once had in the past. I do know christianity is real!. No body will ever change my mind of that!.........Lord remember me when you get to paradise)

IT is very hard to find a true MINISTER, i know one that pasters in CORBIN,that claims to be a PENTECOSTAL preacher,he was not from a pentecostal family, which i know any one can change,"but any one knows when you are a fake, this guy use to watch JIMMY SWAGGARD every SUNDAY morning before church and so did i, he would preach the same sermon as JIMMY did, this was many years ago, and he also tried to act like JIMMY, IF THE LORD IS IN something we know it, and if he isn't we know it.this PASTOR could not control his children , he made fun of his members, so did his wife, and they were always fighting with his wifes family and making fun of what they wore, and putting down the wifes sisters children.they never had any thing good to say about any one.it was all a put on, my family got out of it, and i was so happy, they had a growm SON that beat up ever girl he dated and he was in and out of jail and court all the time,he also drunk and did DRUGS, and the pastor and his wife lied and tryed to cover it all up. but the pastor continued preaching.to me this is wrong, and it is not a good sample for a pastor, i always was taught if you canot control your own family, you are not fit to TEACH.

Agreed.
That's been my issue of debate on the other Forum all along.
Considering i believed i was a "Christian" for a good part of my life, it was not until it actually happened with The Spirit that i realized it wasn't at all the way i had been.
The history and knowledge i obtained through those years was no hindrence, but not the "truth" of the matter.

Now, although i may stumble and need The Shepherd to lead me back to the narrow path, i can't imagine turning back now- EVER!
And these people are filled with such hate, bitterness, and contempt towards the Lord.
i find it impossible to believe The Spirit once resided in them.
i believe their bitterness stems from the fact that they attempted to have Christ, but it proved fruitful, thus the attitude.

Do Christians agree with everything that has been written in the Bible? Many "Christians" I know only take the bits and pieces interesting to them, and emphasize it to try to get a point across. They judge others, but a few verses down, something else horrible is written, but they pay no mind to it. This is why I stopped going to church. We must have some crappy preachers around here... But I believe in love, faith, and happiness in our universe. ♥

"How do you KNOW that you are saved?" The Scriptures do not answer this specific question? If they do, I am not aware of such an answer. The problem is that you put it in the PAST TENSE---

Kirby, yeah, i just can't remember all the names where i've been.
i was hoping that if a few of these threads got to rolling, and any of those folks check in from time to time, that they might be compelled to participate a bit.
It seemed we needed some subject matter for enticement, and now, i think we've got it.
i figured anything that's at the top of the National Charts for a long time should work here also.
Not a bad start anyway!

I can only tell you how I felt when I was saved.....You will have a overwhelming love for everyone. A warmth will run over you and give you an unconditionally feeling that all things you have done in the past have been forgiven. You will feel sooo bad when you think or do something wrong and the lord will check you and you will ask him to forgive you for it. Even if it is something as small as a curse word!! I think if you truly get saved he will be always in your heart But when you back slid you keep doing things of the world until it gets easier and easier. Until you become "OF THE WORLD' again and it is very hard to get him to listen to you when you pray and ask him to forgive you again. I have often but I don't get the feelings of forgiveness. I don't have any reminders when I have done something wrong.I only feel alone and abandoned. So My advice is if you want to get saved pray with all your heart and soul until you are truly satisfied that you are saved. And stay with it no matter how many troubles or valleys you have. I wish I had!!

NO- that is why there are so many denominations, to get around as much of what's in the Bible as possible.

The New Covenant did away with the Old Covenant except for History sake and the 10 Commandments. Not that we discard the O.T., but we no longer live in it because the sacrifice of Jesus did away with all sacrifices and the ancient laws of the Jews of the time.

The N.T. should be followed precisely but isn't.
We are not to divorce or remarry except for 1 exclusion.
That is widely accepted, even amongst ministers.
Most would agree the Bible states that women are not to preach.
We are not to have sex unless married.
We are only to have sex with the opposite sex.
We are not to be rich in material possessions but share what we have.
We are not to put money into buildings {churches} but give to the needy.
We are to put God first and foremost.
We are to love all, not just who we choose.

Doesn't work that way. Each denomination misrepresents different areas of the Bible, so one may find a paricular faith that suits their sin.

It's pure hypocrisy, and not mirroring Jesus' image or The Living Word of God.

But yes, Christians should obey the writings of the New Testament to the best of their ability at all times.
Sadly ... the "Church" has gone even further astray to this day.
Perhaps why some believe the Church Age has ended.
Which has nothing to do with our connection to Christ, which will never end!
