Does anyone know how I can get my child entered into "shop with a cop"? I have never done this, so I don't know the first thing to do, this year has been a really tough year! Can anyone tell me what to do? No negative comments please, I have a job, but ive had to pay a lot out for family issues. I just want my twins to have a good christmas. Thanks in advance!

The kids selected to participate are generally selected by the school resource officer at the school they attend. I would start there

Contact the Laurel County Sheriffs Office and ask for Gilbert Acciardo.

I commend, not only Laurel co. Sheriff's office, and the other county Sheriff's offices who participate in this, I think any kid who is chosen to participate will also remember for the rest of their life, the kindness a police officer had shown them that day.

Shop with a cop is a great thing. It helps so many kids get a few gifts. I just disagree with them putting pictures of the kids In the news paper. Poor kids have it hard enough at school, and the paper just makes it worse by telling the whole county that they had to shop with a cop for Christmas gifts...

I agree with each of you. It is a wonderful thing. My only objective is that it's always the same children. And I know that one of those kids does not need it. The mother draw. More money in one month than I work for in two months. That's not right because sooo many children have nothing

They will be 2 march 6th..their not in school, and I was just hoping that someone somehow could buy for 1 and I can split it between the 2 of them, I'm not asking for much, just enough to make them happy, yea they are young, but I can remember when I was that age..

I agree with Dunno about the pictures. It is hard for familes to ask for help but to have them publicly recognized in the paper is humiliating. My family was choosen to a thaksgiving meal with other families in need, but I don't think we wil attened such an embarassing event.I would have prefered to have picked up a basket. We may be in need but we still have some pride left.

Unless things have changed within the program. Those that shop with a cop are school aged students and are chose thru the school system. The program is based on their families income into the household, how many in the home as well. The program normally serves a100 children. They are able to purchase one toy and the other is something they need a coat, clothes, shoes things of this nature. Usually a $100.00 is spent on each child. Those that are chosen are considered to have the lowest incomes coming into their homes versus those around them. Without this wonderful program, they would have no Christmas. Thank you to those that donate and the cops that participate in the program!!

For these of you that state you are struggling. There is other programs out there for your child. For instances, those with school age children. At the beginning of the school year Parents should have filled out a paper for their child's Family Resource Center. Stating you would need assistance for the holidays. This provides a Thanksgiving basket at Thanksgiving time and a Christmas basket at Christmas time. They also ask for donations for toys, clothes, coats, shoes and food or this purpose. Helping those in need. The Resource Centers o wonderful work as well as the schools. There is also local churches who give out Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas baskets very year. Some churches give out shoebox gifts as well as the schools for those in need. Please use these resources. If you can't find one post it on here, ad someone will help you. God bless!

Ps....I forgot to add that a lot of local churches are provided a list of students who are in need and some items they have requested for Christmas. The members of the church chose from the tree and buy for that student and the gift is placed in a shoebox and wrapped. We are also provided list of those not in school and we try to provide for all f them. Plus the churches food pantry does Thanksgiving BasketsZ,
