Go to www.irs.gov and you can pick from a list of different tax sites. i use taxslayer. If you have a checking account you will get your refund direct deposited in 10 days. I filed mine Thursday a week ago and called the bank just 30 minutes ago and the money is in the bank now. The services walk you through all the different steps anybody can do their own.Plus its free for certain income limits. Then go to www.kyrevenue.com and file your state for free. Don't pay the service you use for federal to file your state. go to the state site and file and for certain incomes its free.I have been doing this for 6 years.H & R Block had been doing my brothers and last year he went there, then I went online and done them for him just to see if there was a difference and there was . He got $100.00 more back online plus it didn't cost him anything to file in a week he had his money direct deposited into the bank!

I went to Fast Tax and Accounting in London across the street from the state police and they were great.I had my refund the next day and they treated me great. I got my check within 24 hours of filing without paying those expensive fees that others charge. I won't ever go anywhere else.

Most reputable companies should be able to quote you a price, however, sometimes that deems impossible via telephone. Until that preparer actually sees precisely what you have, it's difficult to quote. Why? Because depending on a situation, certain entries may generate worksheets that bear a cost. For example, depending on the complexity or what is included in your return, one item may create something called AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax). If so, then that's another form, and, worksheet. If you have a stock transaction, it requires a form of entry, also a worksheet that combines your ordinary income and capital income, calculates separate types of tax on each, then it goes to your 1040 pg. 1.

One thing that should never be done is, comparing what one paid to another. The simplest thing might create an additional worksheet the other person may not have had. The true ONLY way one can compare what one paid to another is to compare both tax returns side by side and the differences are in black and white.

If one has a simple return, a 1 or 2 - W-2 situation, doing it yourself online isn't a real problem...add and subtract. However, if it's beyond that, I would recommend a tax professional. Remember, you can't talk to a box and if you don't have real tax knowledge, you won't be able to even recognize an error if you made one. I've seen that happen more times than once.

Also, recognize precisely what you are paying for. There are preparation fees, bank fees, account fees. Usually a tax organization is working with a bank. The preparation fee belongs to the tax service. If you are getting what they refer to as the quick kmoney, you are incurring a "finance charge" because it's a high risk loan....banks are dishing out the money before they know if in fact IRS will release your money.

Correction to above....the capital gains worksheet figure goes to 1040 Pg. 2 versus Pg. 1. Sorry for that error.

For the posters on here, note that the above from London is copying me. Ignore it because you can clearly tell, it's not the real SpeakUp.

Try the IRS' home office in Cincinnati....they'll take good care of you. Just tell them you're hiding some of your earnings and they'll look the other way.

Again, depends upon if it's a simple return, or, more complex. There's a lot of sites or programs to do them with, but fact still remains, one can't have a discussion with a box when it comes to your livelihood.

Grigsby Tax Service on Sasser School Road is really good, and the lady that owns the place is a wonderful. They won't rip you off and she has done taxes for years, and keeps up with all the changes from year to year.

I use turbo tax online and have for several years. It is really great and walks you through it. Best thing is it keeps your info for next year. If you have rental property or investments it is a reall help. If your taxes are simple, you can use it for free.
