Here goes...Im a Mortuary Student and there is no law stating only three funeral homes in London or any location for that matter.
If that was the case. Why is there 4 Funeral Homes in Corbin within a small area.
Laurel Funeral Home,I knew the owners and still do they are great family. The reason why Laurel FH went out of business was that the owners were gettin up in age and decided to retire...So hey put it up for sale, the company that runs the OPEN MRI in Lexington bought them out. And furthermore I think there should be more friendlier, afforadble and caring funeral homes/ mortuary services in the area...London Funeral Home has a nice facility but poor communication skills. Bowling Funeral Home grown tremendously I have several friends that work there. House-Rawlings have some of the Best in the business that is in the London Area.
I have not heard of this new funeral home in Pittsburg.
First, I'd like to say my family deals with London Funeral Home and we are very pleased with the services we've been given. Now, I've checked this new funeral home out on the internet and the map given shows it to be located off 229 on 521. This is not in Pittsburg. It's the Laurel River area.

The new one being discussed is in the Pittsburg area. Technically it's London but everyone considers it to be Pittsburg. You are going past the Police barracks in London headed toward East Bernstadt. It's on the right side of the road.

I don't know then what is going on. I went in on yahoo, typed in Southern Horizon Funeral Home. It has no web page, but did offer a map. The map read off 229 on 521. Must be a mix-up on the map site. It did say that Chris Jackson was the owner. I don't know him or have ever heard of him. Have you?

I think spending a lot of money on funerals is a waste. People spend alot of money on funerals and buy plots and they think their loved ones will spend to the end of time there and this is not true. They move graveyards all the time. I seen one moved to build a McDonalds once. We had one here in London moved off the corner of 363 and 192. It happens all the time everywhere. It is all a money scam to get the grieving to give there loved ones the best and spend their money. Did you know there isn't even a bottom in the casket? They lay the body on straps, this isn't for your loved one it is to cut the cost and make it lighter to carry. You can also buy used caskets. This is where they use a casket for a viewing for a person they are going to creamate.Do a study on this it is realy a money making business.

The trouble with funeral home cost is the deadbeats that will not pay. We have to pay more just to offset the expense the funeral has by not getting paid.
There is no such thing as getting the casket back!!!!
But don't feel to sorry for the people who own funeral homes.

You are "Dead" wrong! It is located about a mile past the Ky. State Police Post on North 25, on the Right near those little Flea Market places. I Noticed it 2 days ago.
There is 'NO' 229 and 521. There is a East 80 and 521...and a 1189 and 521 but not 229 and 521. So what goes with your post?

Chris is a real nice young country boy. I hope he does well. For families that can't afford the high costs of burial and for the old people that have no children or much family, I think it is great. You see a lot of people that just have graveside services. A big fancy chapel and big fancy hursts are not going to get you any closer to Heaven, just like going to a big fancy church won't get you any closer to God. As a matter of fact these big churches that try to out do one another with big churches and big gymnasiums, big stages and big audio video systems sicken me. Good luck Chris you have a lot of friends wishing you the very best. I'll be down to see you very soon.

God Bless you. I agree with you 100%. I like just a plain simple country church. I don't know this boy Chris, but I hope he does very good with his funeral home. It's a service we'll all need one day, so I wish him luck.

London has started this new thing of trying to have 2 differrent funerals at the same time. It is very confusing. I look at it as they want you in pay for the funeral and out the door. There is people everywhere and everybody is confused. IT IS A MESS!! They claim they want each family to have whatever time they want. I would gladly wait and have my family members funeral at a time when we had the entire staff and building. They are trying to impress people when they are actually hurting themselves.
I have a comment Mixed Up, The only way this could remotely be confusing is not knowing what the heck you are doing or talking about!

But don't feel to sorry for the people who own funeral homes.
I will have to tell an experience my aunt by marriage mother did...Her husband passed away sent him to one funeral home laid there a week or so...The funeral asked them if they could come up with a form of collateral...she wouldn't put her house or anything up for his funeral...Contacted another funeral home in Corbin had them go get him from the first funeral home...because the second funeral home didn't require a downpayment this funeral was 4995 said and done but the extremely bad thing was they still have to pay this other funeral home like 2000 to 2500 for the injections and holding him on there table for so long...so any way you look at it... People don't think about what this causes others when stuff like this happens and yet they are being required to pay off the other FH. Which I think its only Right!!! No funeral home should have to eat cost like such for ignorance...I give kudos to the Funeral Home stepping it up.

You think spening alot of money is waste when it comes to burying your loved ones...May I ask you a question without you getting upset or furious? If spending money on a funeral is a waste what about paying health insurance for people that don't even work smoking like a freight train...I think thats a waste of time especially for the ard working american class people that don't smoke yet our premiums are going through the roof... Costing taxpayers billions upon billions annually that don't even smoke. So dont go there!

And as for caskets not having bottoms, and laying them on straps please you are out of your right mind. Caskets do have bottoms, and bodies cannot be removed from there final resting place... unless a court order has been placed...This is called an exhumation order or if a family themselves request this action to be done but and still you have to have this done in writing and approved by the state

For SHHHEW, You have not upset me because I have buried 6 family members and I know the bodies do lay on straps in these coffins. Go and look for yourself and I did see an intire grave yard moved for a Mc Donalds and there was a grave yard on 363 and 192 that was moved and is still up for sale as commercial property, any one in London who has lived there for the past 10 years can tell you this and it is done all the time all over the U.S
Nothing is for ever not even your burial place ask the Egyption mummies. Most of their bodies were dug up and used for fuel for trains.

You sir are wrong! There is a covering, thin piece of something lightweight so called bottom,, of the casket but the body does lie on straps, you should investigate further. The fact is in the future if money can be made off of land, that is being occupied by a grave yard the court will allow the graveyard to be moved. This happened at 363 and 192. Why do you think it has taken so long for the property to be sold. Takes time for memories to fade. There is a graveyard off cassidy road that people just built right on top of, but memories fade and people do what they want to.

People need funeral homes because we are out of the notion of doing the final act of love for our loved ones, but in doing that we have aloud others to abuse us money wise. I'll do your dirty work for you but its gonna cost you. It is not uncommon for an average funeral to cost 10,000 dollars. Who has that kind of money to put in the ground? If this new guy can put you away for 4000 I say show some brains and throw him some business.
