Can anyone out there tell me when 6th grade tryouts will be for North Middle this year? I have a daughter entering 6th grade in August and would like to try out.

tryouts are usually at the end of april or beginning of May, sometime after CATS testing. There will be announcements made at the elementary schools for tryouts.

Thanks. Do you know how many spots there will be open for new 6th graders? My daughter has been taking gymnastics for years in anticipation of this first tryout. I'm so nervous for her, but she's not. I guess that's good. I have a niece that was a North cheerleader for years, both middle and high. She really loved competition, especially in Florida.

there are about 14 8th graders leaving! there are 25 girls on the competition team and about 10 of the 8th graders were on the competition team. In total there were about 30 girls all together on the team. Once you make the team there is a separate tryout for the competition team, you need a back handspring to make the competition team. I hope she makes it, it will be an honor to be on the NLMS cheer team

Thanks. You've been very helpful. She has her back handspring, with a mat. Working on roundoff back handspring. Going twice a week now to gymnastics to prepare for tryouts. She's tall and strong. Wants to be a flyer. She can do anything she wants according to the coaches, but lacks confidence to do it. I know she would do well once she gets settled in with a team and sees what the other girls are doing. She just needs a little encouragement.
