Shame on the parents of the young boys that live on Old Hare Road! There was a funeral going on and they were riding up and down the road! Their parents have raised them to have no manners at all! They have no class. no respect and no decency. Shame on the sheriff's department for letting them ride on the roads like that. Enough is enough enforce the laws and do your job.

You think this is the Sheriff's responsibility, do parents not have any responsibility anymore? Parents need to start stepping up, grandparents should be the ones raising these kids.

I live out there and the police have been called several times. One of my neighbors notified the sheriff himself. I think there is a state policeman that lives on that road. It does no good.

So sad, so sorry this happened. However, had the sheriff been told drugs were involved he would have been right there. BTW, the state policeman probably has a kid doing the riding.

Riding on the road is illegal and dangerous. If you want to ride in the woods make sure it is your own property. Keep it on your own land and there will a lot less problems.

What's the big deal with kids being kids. I agree that they should have more respect when a funeral is going on. However, unless it's late at night or a funeralthen let them ride. Would you rather them sit in their rooms all day playing video games? At least they aren't out stealing from you or selling drugs down the street. It's a good time for kids to get out and be kids. When they become adults then their lives will be full of rules and regulations. Let them be. geesh.

ATVs should not be driven on paved roads. ATVs on paved roads are at risk of being hit by cars and other vehicles. While passenger vehicles contain safety features designed to protect occupants from collisions, ATVs do not. If struck by other vehicles, ATV riders can be killed or severely injured.

In addition, most ATVs have low pressure tires and a solid rear axle, where both wheels turn at the same speed. When making a turn, the ATV's inside rear wheel is intended to skid because its path length is less than the path length of the outside wheel. ATVs on paved surfaces have much better traction, which prevents the necessary skidding. This can make turning an ATV on paved surfaces unpredictable and unstable.

For these reasons, some states and local areas prohibit ATVs and other off-road vehicles on public streets and highways.

You sound like the kind of person that if their child was riding an atv on a highway and got hit by a car that you would be the first in line to file a lawsuit against the driver of the car. There are laws against riding on roads as well as trespassing on other peoples propery and the kids need to stay off of them both. There are always places that people that ride atvs can find to legally ride them.I say go there and do.I do own an atv and ride on my property and where I have permission.

You sound like the kind of man who is a real prude. Kinda like an old grandma! "Get out of here kids! Get off my property!" I can remember that type when I was young. Nothing better to do than worry about the neighborhood kids stepping on their grass or climbing a tree or something. lol.
And you say there are places for people to legally ride. Could you name some off for me? I really would like to know. Maybe somewhere you don't have to drive twenty miles to get to.

Who says those kids aren't on drugs? They're out riding their ATVs during funerals but after that they may as well have free time cooking meth for homework. You don't know what those kids do so don't pretend it's okay to be disrespectful because they're "not on drugs" -- at that particular moment.

Not a prude at all but I wouldnt want my kid to end up dead or maimed because I didnt train and supervise them properly in safe legal atv riding.Scarcely a week goes by in riding season in this state where you dont read of or see on tv of an individual being killed or seriously injured in an atv accident or getting hit by a vehicle while riding on a road.I would guess the vast majority are 20 years of age or younger. They are illegal on the roads for a reason. Its obvious parents are doing a poor job of looking after their kids and educating them about proper riding procedures and riding in areas where it is legal.
As far as me riding my atv I do it on my property which coincidently is located over 60 miles from here.I mainly use it to work on the place for weed control, carrying tools, etc.Otherwise it stays in my garage. If you dont own a place to ride one or find a place before buying then that is your problem.Dont go spend the money then go to whining cause you dont have a place to ride.I am sure there are places where you can ride but you have to inquire instead of just turning kids loose on the streets and roads and allowing them to trespass and maybe leading to them getting hurt.I am sure the atv shops that sell them know of places where they can be safely ridden.

..You say you are riding on your own property. I seriously doubt that. I bet you live right on the road the funeral was on. You say I don't have a life..I have a life as a law abiding person and my children are as well. They agree that 4 wheelers are to be rode only in fields and pastures. So a kid is a little bit more bored without a 4 wheeler. Poor baby, give me a break with the kids don't have anything to do crap. You are not a very good parent. Oh you think you are but MR you ain't! I bet you treat them like they are your buddy and not a child. Children need someone to teach them right from wrong and watch over them. Letting them ride illegally is teaching them something wrong right from the start. I guarantee they will do things illegal later on in life. So you just might as well hand them the dope you were referring to because you are setting a bad example of being a person that obeys the law. And besides You don't know what they do when they aren't in your sight. They aren't smart enough to know what to do in a situation when they are going to fast and a car is coming that don't see them. They do wheelies while traffic is driving behind them. They drive way to fast and never look before they come off a side street. It shouldn't be the driver in the car that has to watch out for your kid. It should be you! As far as not having the land to ride on all I can say is don't buy a horse if you don't have a pasture to put it in. It don't take a idiot to figure that one out. But I see you are poorly educated because you can't even spell correctly so I can't expect you to understand that you are in the wrong in this. But in my eyes you are a low life individual and your children will be too. In fact the way you talk you probably are a kid.

So let me get this straight, if kids don't ILLEGALLY ride ATVs they will do drugs!

My kids did not ride ATVs and they are not on drugs.

Yes, everything is "dangerous" but some more that others. Riding in a safe car with a sane driver on the interstate is much safer than pitching a tent and camping in the fast lane.

BTW, most people would just ignore the riders IF, IF they had sense enough to ride reasonably and put mufflers on the dang things so they wouldn't rattle your windows before they even get in sight of your house!

No one wants to be sued when one of these kids pulls out in front of them, and they will be, even though the kid is at fault. Well, the kid's parent would be at fault and should be jailed for abuse. Any law enforcement official that was previously notified and did nothing should also be in big trouble!
