You would think that out of consideration for the 100's of families affected by the storm, many with kids in LC Schools, the Laurel County and E. Bernstadt school systems would be closed on Monday. Most other counties where tornadoes hit, closed their schools. Examples: LAWRENCE COUNTY SCHOOLS: Closed Monday
MENIFEE COUNTY SCHOOLS: Closed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
MOREHEAD STATE UNIV.- WEST LIBERTY: Closed Until Further Notice
MORGAN COUNTY SCHOOLS: Closed Monday-Friday
PENDLETON COUNTY SCHOOLS: Closed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
WOLFE COUNTY SCHOOLS: Closed Monday, Tuesday

The Laurel County School administration has no compassion for the suffering families who will find it almost impossible to get their kids to school this week.

As usual, they are only concerned about the money they would not get if school was closed.

Parents should remember this when it gets time for school board members to try to get re-elected.

Yeah, I'm wondering why they would even need to have a "meeting" to discuss whether to have school or not. To me it is a no-brainer. There should be no school.

My sentiments exactly. I have told my wife all day today "I'm sure they'll cancel school for a few days so that families could try and attempt to get back on their feet". However, we learned several hours ago that the school administration was out attempting to find "alternate bus routes" so they could have school.

Are you kidding me, "we're trying to find alternate bus routes so we can go to school". This in my opinion is the most empathetic gesture I have ever witnessed in my life. Yes, I understand that it has only affected a small geographical area in the county but how many FAMILIES has it affected throughout the entire county. Unfortunately, the snow fall throughout the night will probably save their ass's from making a decision when it shouldn't be a decision to have to make, HAVE SOME DAMN IMPATHY instead of worrying about the all mighty dollar.

It all comes down to greed. They lose $800+ per kid per day if there's no school!

If people really knew how this school board and superintendents operated they'd be sick. I really hope that everyone wises up around election time for the board members.

All of the school board members are elected. They, in turn, choose all of the officials at central office.

It is very simple why they don't care besides the money part. It is because where the storms did the damage. If it had been in cold hill, sublimity, bush or london district, they would have dismissed school in a second. east bernstadt and hazel green area are like the red-headed stepchildren in this county as far as the school system is concerned.

I think everyone should call their school board members tonight at their homes no matter how late it is and tell them what you think.

School or not, it isn't decided by any one on the school board, it is up to transportation director, superintendent. The school board has no say in this.

The school board picked the superintendent right??? I'm sure if the school board members came together and said it makes sense to dismiss school for a couple days they would listen!!!! It's a shame this is even a discussion!!! I'm done with it!!!
