Killed 2 copper heads today in my yard.I live in Gatlinburg and dont like to kill them but copper heads and humans dont mix.The one you move today might be back tomorrow and bite you.Check out the bites and damage they do and you just might think twice about letting them go.

Seems like you all are a bunch of inbred fucktards that eat snakes and share your sister wife with your cousin while passing the cracklaced chewing tobacco around.

King snakes and Black racers will kill copperheads and are nonvenomous. Black rat snakes (most commonly "black snakes") do not. I think some people call Racers black snakes as well but they are a different type all together.

Your best bet to get rid of them isn't to kill them at all. Get rid of their prey and you get rid of them. Move all rock and wood piles away from the house, clean up brush, keep grass trimmed low, don't mulch too deep... these things get rid of rodents and thus the snakes don't come around.

You could sprinkle mothballs around your house and in flower beds. That will detour all snakes, or go to lowes and get some Snake-B-Gone and sprinkle that around, it's more expensive then the mothballs tho.
Mothballs are effective BUT will also kill children, pets and beneficial wildlife. Use with extreme caution.

We have three "blacksnakes" in KY. The Black Kingsnake, which eats primarily other snakes, Black Racer which eats mice, lizards, snakes and frogs, and the Black Rat Snake that most people call black snakes or cow suckers and they eat rodents, birds and eggs.

Most colubrid snakes will at one time or another, or have the potential to eat other snakes, including those in their own species, Especially, racers and rat snakes, also, we have four black colored snakes in Kentucky, all of which have been listed aside from Eastern Hognose, which aren't all always black, but occasionally are, which eat only toads out in the wild. People freak out around them, because they think they're cobras, ironically enough, they're so reluctant to bite, that they'll play dead, or pseudo strike, which is where they strike, but they don't open their mouth to bite when doing so... But this forum is supposed to be about copperheads, so here's something you should know about them, they too will occasionally eat other snakes as well. Save your money when it comes to buying products to run snakes away, such as moth balls, garlic, and other supposed snake repellents. They all work the same way. They run the food sources of snakes away, leaving the snakes with no real reason to be there, but if one so chose to be there it would still be, mothballs or not. Best thing for you to do, is make your land less desirable for them to be there. Take away their hiding spots, if you have high grass, pieces of tin, or any other kinds of clutter that they could hide under or in, try to thin it down, as snakes do not like open spaces. Leaving stuff like that around is just inviting them to be at your house. If you do not have these things around, you may live near a water supply for them, or near a den site, (which Copperheads, tend to like places that are close to water) in that case, you will want to learn to coexist with them and avoid them and teach others around you to keep an eye out for them when walking, because most bites occur because the snake is stepped on, where as if you saw it and startled it it would make an escape, they only stand their ground if they can't retreat. The last thing you ever want to do is to attempt killing them if it isn't necessary, because this increases your chances of getting bit, and if you shoot at them that'd just be a waste of ammo. Save your bullets for something that you can't get away from and that will really pursue you. The worst snakes in the world are the ones walking around on two legs, not the ones in the woods.

Re: What is best way to kill a copperhead snake?

Cut off the head, make sure the snake did not bite itself, and bury its head, because it will still be poison.

1 cup flour
1 cup corn meal
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper
soak the snake in milk for a half hour, then dip in a egg wash, then dredge in the ingredients. Deep fry at 375 degrees for 5 to 6 min.

Do you mean kill all the copperheads or kill all snakes in general (on your property)?

If you mean all type snakes ..... in our area killing every snake you see will end up causing you to have more copperheads on your land. The other snakes are easy to see so they become wiped out. But the copperheads are much harder to see in leaves in the woods, so you don't kill them all. With fewer predators they breed and you end up with more of what you wanted rid of. Kill the copperheads if they come around your house or barn, but not the useful snakes.

Random killing can and has caused extinction of species.

a shotgun,or pistol work really well. a long handled hoe an axe do well. moth balls in the yard will keep them away, but if you are a novice let the damn snake alone and he won't f... with you.
