The shooting yesterday at a middle school in Georgia left a fourteen year old student shot in the head. Luckily he's alive.
Like in Alabama where an armed man this week killed a school bus driver and kidnapped a random child from the bus Georgia is a big gun state, in Georgia even 'no guns permitted' signs on private businesses have no legal power and are ignored. Both states are also bible-belt states.
The student who was the shooter was captured by a police officer which was a school resource officer. Does having a police officer assigned to a school, stop all shootings? It does not in cases such as this, they happen too fast and unexpectedly (although I do fully believe schools need trained resource officers).
What it shows is there is a huge problem with 'guns'.
Meaning the ease in which even kids and teens can come to have one in their hands and kill someone, commit robbery, or whatever else is in their minds.
There's too much violence. Too much killing. This cannot be allowed to continue.
Read and learn something Jenny.I bet you have never heard of this program by the NRA.They have been educating children in firearm safety since 1988.Everyone always wants to bash the NRA but at least they have been making an effort for years and all the libs and antis are doing is b!tching about the violence and trying to take rights away.

Suppose all these evil random acts were truly just that, evil random acts by sic individuals, and you solved this so-called gun problem, what will the next problem be, bombs, poisons or viruses, etc. etc? Humans are still the deadliest of creatures.

The laws of physics are the forces of all natural evils, the rest of the evils are man-made choices with many variables, some intentional perhaps, some not so.

This world was not designed to provide an eternal, perfect place for us to live in, rather, grow-mature-learn, there in lies the problem. IMHO we are being controlled by those in control who want total control at any cost, period.
One who relies only on the government interpretation must assume the risk that it is in error. The conclusion is that some very smart people are running everything and subtly telling us what they want us to think. Stop listening and think for yourself.

The masses needs are not being met. That's why we have chaos and strife. The only message I have for most people is that they are a product of what they were taught not what they knew all along.

Btw, if the NRA way was the way to handle violence then why is there still so much of it? Heck, just look at gun violence in schools in only the last two months. There's been farrrrrr more out on the streets across the nation. According to you the NRA have been trying since the beginning of the group. Has their way worked? We do need the means and right to protect ourselves. But no one is attempting to take those rights from us. This is about getting guns away from criminals. Which the NRA opposes. And they 'are' opposing it because they are fighting every effort to stop criminals from having them.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat from New York wonders, "If now is not the time to have a serious discussion about gun control and the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our society, I don't know when is." It's the word "epidemic" that struck me. If the tragic, but isolated murder of 26 people is an epidemic, what is the ongoing, daily slaughter of 3,315 innocent human beings? We can and must devote honest, focused attention to the issue of gun violence, but there won't be any meaningful solutions until we recognize the real problem–and it's not one public policy can fix. It requires a far more fundamental reshaping of our culture. Abortion and gun violence are both alike symptoms of more systematic failures. I was reminded of that today.
So as we work to implement better laws and policies, may we never think that these are the only, or even the most important fixes we can make. And as work to reshape our culture into a more loving and less violent place, may we not lose sight of the fact that it begins with us: sacrificing ourselves for the rights of others–not sacrificing others for the rights of self. Our society has no problem seeing our future in the lives of kindergartners. We need to do a better job seeing our future in the lives of unborn children. They are the most vulnerable among us. And so long as they are belittled and destroyed, our severest social punishment will continue to be leveled from within.

<quoted text>The reason these laws don't work is because those who break the laws are not prosecuted or prosecuted severely. New York City has gun related crimes dropping dramatically. That is because if you carry a weapon and you get caught with it you will go to jail for 3 to 5 years. It is a mandatory sentence. Now that is a strict gun law and it works.
How is violating peoples' rights ever a good thing? If a criminal is caught with a weapon, OK. Honest citizens that do not have a policeman assigned one on one to protect them should be able to carry personal protection.

You should rely on police in lieu of your gun, just as you should rely on a dentist in lieu of your toothbrush. Knowing full well that police arriving at 80mph and 30 mins late are a better way to stop criminals than bullets arriving at 800mph 30 min earlier.

1 firearm owner in 10,000 will commit an act of violence in his or her lifetime, and this is far more frightening than the 25% of drivers who will cause a serious or fatal accident.

Depressed and emotionally disturbed should not be allowed to own guns that shoot bullets with 250 ft-lbs of energy, but should be allowed to own 4000 lb cars with 1,136,000 ft-lbs of energy (at 65 mph).

Hitler and Stalin didn't disarm citizens, only Jews, Gypsies, gays, unionists and other undesirables.

the president most probably ordered these murders, to further his plan against americans having guns for their protection.
after all anyone who would help to abort innocent babies has no limit to what they will do to you, if the situation arises.

What if all the gunowners decided to take your right to life away? Maybe not take it just modify it a little. Then a little more. After the sting wears off and a few million otherwise honest citizens are jailed. They take some more. Until you are oppressed to do our bidding?

It's a two way street.
