What does a medical card cover if you are pregnant like dentist and dermatologist? And how long will it cover you after you have the baby, does it still cover the same things after you give birth? Can you keep your card once theres a child in the home?

I don't know if it covers dermatologist but it does cover dentist and any other health care providers you may need (ie: gall bladder surgery, getting your tubes tied, etc). I think you keep it 2 or 3 months after the baby is born (not sure about that though) and yes it covers all the same things. You can keep the card after the baby depending on your income and how many members are in your family. Your baby will have a card as well which it will keep depending on your income and even if your income is higher and their is no other health insurance available to the child they will switch your childs case over to KCHIP and you will keep the medical card and pay a monthly premium of $20.00 per month (Though your first month bill is $40.00 b/c you pay a month in advance)for your child's coverage.

I have three children, live on less than 800 dollars a month, and I can't get a medical card.

So no, one month after birth you're on your own. No medical card.

That's strange b/c I had three kids and lived on a pretty good income and had mine for a little over 6 weeks...of course after that I was dropped and my kids remained on KCHIP

No no, my kids still have their medical cards. Let me rephrase:

An ADULT will lose their medical card a month and a half after they give birth, their baby will have it's own card then.

uhh if you live on less than 800 dollars a month then you definately can get a medical card, unless you're living with someone else who makes more than required limit. so if you're living with someone else then thats common sense that you're not going to get one because that have to use everyone's income in the household. so if you're truly living on your own with children and only making 800 dollars a month then you need to go sign up for a medical card because you definately qualify.

That's funny, because I'm telling the truth. I thought I'd probably be covered but no, really, they sent me a letter a few weeks after my baby was born and I don't have a medical card anymore. That's fine with me, as long as my kids get covered. I'll live.

Maybe I'll call them and see what's up.

The only way you can get a medical card is if you have children and make less than 200 per month trust me I have tried to get one. My ex husband my kids father he is in prison for 30 years and I get no child support or anything WHAT A LOSER, and my current husband is on disability due to heart trouble and other medical problems. the kids do have medical cards and my husband has medicare but I go to school full time and have no insurance at all and I'm just screwed if I get sick

Thats not true.. you can make more than 200 dollars a month and get a medical card even with children... the reason why you probably dont get one is because of your husbands income (disability). i know for a fact that for a mother that has one child the monthly income limit is like 1200 dollars a month or something close to that.. and the more children you have, the higher the limit SO... to the woman who stated she has 3 children and only makes 800 dollars a month, she meets the requirements with flying colors! call them back sister and see whats up!!

They told me my kids get a medical card because my husbands income doesn't count for them but since we are married its counts for me. He only draws $866 per month and they said it was over the limit for me to get a medical card unless I am pregnant then I would be approved other wise the income limit is $200 or under.

They told me that the only way I could get a medical card is if I am in under 18,blind, disabled or pregnant..no medical card if you aren't any of those. I had no income at the time, but was receiving food stamps...still didn't qualify for any medical assistance.

I was about to say, they count how much food stamps you get. You see I make less than 800 dollars a month but they count that AND the foodstamps I get. So no medical card, but like I said I'm fine with it.

I just hate these holier than thou people that strut around saying I'm sucking off the government's welfare teat because my kids qualify for benefits. I would have stayed with my abusive husband for the money but I didn't want my children growing up thinking acting like him was okay.

So I'm the bad person and the welfare deatbeat because I decided to leave an abusive relationship. I work and do the best I can, I know my kids are getting what they need. If you want to make a difference get their deatbeat dad to provide them insurance through his job and child support. I can't get it through my employer without paying more for it than my I make.$200 dollars a week to be precise.

After you give birth..the mother keeps the medical card for 6 weeks then loses it.. The child keeps the card untill there 18 depending on inclome for the family..thats when the spin down card comes in to play its like health ins you still pay 4 it just like regular ins..you can qualify for the spin down card at the foodstamp office if you get foodstamps and medical cards for the children then you being the mother should qualify for the spindown card...

also anyone drawing foodstamps can apply for the spindown card not just mothers..
