Is there anywhere besides campus bookstore to buy college books??? Do you have the option of selling them back at the end of the year?? any info would be appreciated.

Ebay is a good place to buy books cheaper. I used to sell some on there after I got done with college. If you do buy them from school you can sell them back to the bookstore for like a fraction of what you paid for them. I had a book that I paid 75 bucks brand new for the bookstore after the semester and was never highlighted or marked in and they were only going to give me 30 and I sold it on E-bay for 55 plus 10.00 shipping.

If the book isn't going to be one that you'll ever need later, then E-bay it. As far as buying it, the campus bookstore is best option, my consersative CPA told me that only those purchased from the campus store could be deducted off of taxes. Just some info. for you to consider. Best of luck.

I wish at the beginning of college we could start a used book sale either at a public place or maybe on topix or Londons classified adds. The bad thing about doing it on topix is there are too many bashers that would keep it too confusing. Some people get away with getting their college paid for but some of us most certainly need as much help as we can get.

I use bigwords.com to find the best prices for my textbooks. You can list your books to sell on amazon and or half.com once the semester is over. The college bookstore is a huge rip off.

Maybe we can list books that we have on here. Is that allowed? I am taking SWK-275 and HIS-109 through KCTCS online this summer and will be finished with the books by the first week of August. I also have the textbooks from PY-110 and COM-181 at SCC Laurel from the Spring semester. I'll be taking BIO-112/113, PSY-223, ED-201, and RS-130 in the Fall semester and have not ordered any of my books yet. I would like to get them locally but I do know that if I order them online vs. the overpriced bookstore, they will cost around $200 instead of $500 or more.

in the spring semester just this year the four classes that i had would have costed around $700 if i had bought my books from the bookstore. i ordered all mine online at collegeswapshop.com all for $200. They also allow you the option of renting instead of buying which is WAAAYYY cheaper. College bookstores are a rip off!

What if you got some financial aid do they expect you to buy from the bookstore?? or is it up to you?

It should be the same but you should check to make sure. You can go to the bookstore here:
http://somersetcc.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/st...
and see if it lists what books you need for your classes. If that doesn't work, you can e-mail the instructor. I had Davis last semester. The book is the previous edition and had everything that was covered in the class except for 2 pages from the last chapter. I copied those pages and stuck them inside the book. You can have it for $5.

You do not have to buy your books from the bookstore if you have financial aid but you can charge anything in the bookstore to your financial aid from 8/11-26. I find that everything in the bookstore is overpriced. If you can afford to pay for your books up front, you will get any leftover financial aid in a check 1-2 months after the semester starts.

I had ENG-101 last semester but I already sold those books. I will warn that if you have Peterson (she might go by Peterson Buchanan now) you should find another class. She is not a good teacher at all.

If you are interested in the psych book, lmk. I am out of state until next week but I am sure we can figure something out to get it to you before the semester starts.

even if you get financial aid, you ARE NOT obligated in ANY way to purchase books from the bookstore. where ever you purchase books from other than the bookstore, you will have to pay out of pocket for your books, that's the only downside...but you save a heck of alot more buy not getting your books from the bookstore. thats where the ripoff is...the bookstore knows all the financial aid receipients buy their books there because they get to "charge" those books, so they basically charge whatever they want for books cuz they know they'll get their money. if you've got your own cash, i would suggest buying or renting from collegeswapshop.com

It is confusing and SCC Laurel seems to make it difficult to get answers unless you are there. If you are already signed up for classes, I am assuming you have an advisor already. Your advisor should know who it is. Even better, if you already have your student e-mail, you can check your schedule through Peoplesoft. The login page is here:

https://kctcs.mycmsc.com/psp/kctsaprd/... ;

The user id is just the user name portion of your e-mail, without @kctcs.edu part and the password is the same as your e-mail password. It is also the same login you use for any online classes through Blackboard. And, when you change your e-mail password, it also changes the other two. Anyway, if you can login there, click My Class Schedule, click Fall then Submit. The you schedule with class names and instructors should be listed.

It is Mastering the World of Psychology. The current edition is the third, I have the second. Like I said before there were two pages from the last chapter that were not in my edition but I copied them from a classmates book and stuck them in mine. If you give me your e-mail or another way to get in touch I will contact you once I get back to Kentucky and we can meet to get you the book, if you want it.

Davis is a good instructor but his class is definitely not an easy pass. I got an A but there were some that did not make it. You really have to study your notes but he makes printouts and gives them to you and gives you a list of terms to study for the exams.

I will be coming back to KY on Wednesday so I will e-mail you once I am home.

I buy all of my books online, but would also buy them from another student locally if I could. I like bigwords.com because you can put the list of all of the books you need in, add them to your bookbag, and the site will search of all of the sites that sell textbooks and tell you what the best deal is. You can even search rentals if you are interested in that. I, personally, prefer not to rent textbooks because I can resell them once the semester over.

I have the Psy 110 Mastering the World of Psychology third edition, I had it last semester with Mr. Feger. It was purchased new and it is in great condition. I will sell it for $60, and I also have the ENG 101 books that were used in the Fall of 07, although I believe it has been changed. If you can find out then I may be able to sell that one to you as well... I guess around $30 for it. Just let me know if you are interested...
