Are Kentuckians paying higher electric bills because Jack sold us out?

According to financial disclosures Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway owns between $1 to $5 million in stock in Texas energy giant Kinder Morgan Energy. Records also show that Kinder Morgan Energy Partners own many petroleum and coal storage terminals in Kentucky.
By Jack Conway owning large sums of stock in Kinder Morgan Energy, approximately 90% of his current stock portfolio, it would appear he is guilty of conflict of interest seeing that he financially benefits from Atmos Energy. The same utility company he approved for a $6 million utility rate increase in Kentucky.

In 2009 Kinder Morgan Energy Partners paid a $25 million fine to settle a dispute that they sold 259,000 tons of coal belonging to the Tennessee Valley Authority from its shipping terminals in Kentucky. So they are big movers of coal in Kentucky. So much so it seems obvious that Conway would benefit financially when the wholesale price of coal or gas rises.

Kinder Morgan Energy owns the Natural Gas Pipeline of America (NGPL). A stretch of pipeline that runs from Southern Texas to the Great Lakes and back again. The natural gas that is purchased by consumers in Kentucky would travel through the NGPL through Missouri and into Kentucky via one of a half dozen pipelines employed by Atmos Energy (SOURCE). Kindred Morgan Energy executives also provided over $18,000 in campaign contributions for Conway's U.S. Senate campaign.

Attorney General Jack Conway's stock in Kinder Morgan Energy most certainly creates a conflict of interest. Conway is tasked to serve the consumer during utility rate increase discussions with the KPSC, but he is most certainly financially benefiting from the rate increases. Conway must immediately disclose any profits earned from his Kinder Morgan Energy stock for public inspection.

sorry but jack has no control over rates those go before the public utillities commision for acceptance or denial. a persons ownership of stock has nothing to do with anything unless you are the one setting the price of the stock! futhermore, the price increase of the goods or services has no effect on the price of the stock perse!

""Atmos Energy serves 180,000 customers in 38 Western Kentucky counties. According to the Federal Election Commission Jack Conway received over $10,000 in campaign contributions for his U.S. Senate campaign from Atmos Energy executives, PACs and Atmos’ lobbying firm, Capital Link Consultants. The campaign contributions alone raises serious questions about the appearance of impropriety. But the fact that Atmos Energy and Kindred Morgan Energy financially benefit from one another would suggest that Conway is guilty of a conflict of interest.""

This is a case of adding two and two to come up with five in suggesting Conway had a conflict of interest. It doesn't add up.
The issue concerns a rate increase for Atmos Energy Corp., which distributes natural gas to about 172,000 customers in Kentucky.
Atmos moves natural gas through a pipeline in Colorado owned by Kinder Morgan Energy. Conway owns stock in Kinder Morgan and reported getting $263,000 in dividends in 2009 and 2010.
In its Kentucky rate request, Atmos asked for $9.5 million. Conway's office, which has authority to intervene in utility rate cases to seek lower rates for consumers, negotiated a settlement of $5.95 million.
Aside from the weak link between Atmos and Kinder Morgan Energy, the key problem with the ad is that Conway's office does not approve utility rate decisions. That authority lies solely with the state Public Service Commission, which approved the settlement for Atmos in May, but which could have rejected it.

STOP! Think about it, IF HE Approved the rate increase, then he was approving his hike in his investment. He should have recused himself from it and let someone else make the decision.

Conman was supposed to be representing the people of Kentucky. Instead he represented his returns on his investment. In the middle of a recession ol' Jack Conman screwed 180000 Kentuckians. That is representation Kentucky could do without.

Why are you so blind that you can't see that the attorney for the people was bought and paid for. 5.9 million increase and you think Jack Conman did you a favor? No wonder you are a dimocrit.

18,000 dollars in campaign contributions tells you all you need to know...

Conway owns nearly a million dollars in Kinder Morgan stock... If you remember the primary (which everybody does) you already know that Kinder Morgan supports Cap & Trade...

That's why Conway supports Cap & Trade! Kinder Morgan and Conway both stand to profit big time by the killing of the coal industry through Cap & Trade...

Anybody that thinks "Rubber Stamp" Conway (like all progressive liberals) gives a shit about the Eastern and Western Ky coalfields and the people and communities that depend on them are foolish...

Jack "Rubber Stamp" Conway is a SNAKE! Just look at his features the next time you see a picture or a political add... The SOB even looks like a snake...

How will Cap & Trade kill the coal industry EXACTLY? Answer that one?

Simple! Industry will move away from burning coal because of the high cost of carbon permits... Thus skyrocketing costs for electricity... When coal is taken out of the equation that only leaves natural as a viable alternative...

Please spare us the crap about wind mills, solar panels and all the rest of the "Flat Earther" Bullshit... Don't even mention nuclear power! The tree huggers shit on themselves at the very mention of nuclear energy...

High demand for natural gas translates into higher electricity rates... Supply and demand... Basic economics...

Now! Answer my question... Why is Conway so heavily invested in the natural gas industry if coal isn't isn't on the progressive liberal chopping block?

Don't you think Conway would be invested in clean coal technology instead... After all, Ky. remains one of the top producers of coal in this country... Why natural gas?

Obama has admitted a cap and trade plan would cause electricity bills to "skyrocket."

Politifact says this is TRUE!

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/state...

Jack Conway doesn't care how high your electric bill goes. He will make money while you lose money!
