They do not carry sleds at walmart, lowes, or big lots. They all say they discontinued them. Where can I find a sled/intertube/ or something to sled on?

They sell inner tubes at Tractor Supply. You can also use plastic garbage can lids, plastic garbage bags, cardboard is good for the type of snow we have now (powdery type). For one really fast - put a piece of cardboard inside a plastic bag or wrap the card board with thick plastic.

Just use your imagination - lots of things can be used without spending money.

I went all over London looking for a sled, and never found one. I ended up using two inner tube floats, they worked really well.

I made one using straight grain white oak for runners which I cut out of 2x6 oak cants with an upright bandsaw at the high school woodshop. White oak is very durable.
The eskimos use to use whalebones for the runners in their dog sleds because they didnt have wood.
when securing the two runners together I would use at least 4 inch wood screws from a hardware store. not those cheap ones from walmart. you should white oak for everything. 1x6s for cross pieces.
The runners should be shaped and sanded and sealed to cut down on friction.
I know this is a small woodworking project that can't be done in an hour, but it will last much longer than a made in china POS.
