Has anyone else in Laurel County had to suffer through the summer because they could not afford to turn on their air conditioner because of Jackson Energy's prices??? If I can ever afford to move, I am going to try and buy some property where it will be serviced by KU. People say their rates are cheaper than Jackson Energy. It kinda makes you wonder why the charge so much more...

Jackson Energy sent me $1000.00, yet I still HATE them. They could hire the best PR firm in the world, and every one would still hate them.

Not a huge amount of difference since KU recently increased their rate due to the ice storms a few winters ago. KU will save you some but probably not enough to make or break a budget.

Jackson Energy Base Charge is $10.44/month and power is $.09849/KWH

KU Base Charge is $8.50/month and power averages
$.095/KWH. KU power rate flucuates monthly based on fuel costs incurred.

Based on 1500KWH usage Jackson $158.18 and KU $151.00.

I can not believe how Jackson Energy can pull the wool over so many people. I am on the prepay plan on this plan you get a monitor that tells you what you are using and my average was $5.35 a day and now on 08/31/11 I paid $25.00 to J.E and the next day they charged me $17.00. I called them talked to a supervisor and said he was not sure what was going on and he would call me back in a hour so he called me back and said it was a software glitch and they are looking into it. But get this, then he called me back to say "THAT JACKSON ENERGY IS CHARGING YOU MORE BECAUSE THEY ARE HAVING TO PAY MORE FOR ENERGY." Now my daily average went from $5.35 to $6.85 and I do not have any lights on my air is set to 77 degrees and I hardly take a bath I never use my electric range and I hardly watch tv.... How is person supposed to keep a budget??... I can only work so much you know and I don't go out to eat or spend my money frivolously on stupid things, I don't smoke/drink I don't gamble. Have you noticed that the counties with Jackson Energy are having it rough and people are moving out to where Kentucky Utilities are?? THIS IS CRAZY!!

So, I guess they put people on this pre pay deal cause they are a dead beat and don't pay their bills? Kind of like a pre pay cell phone people get cause they can't qualify for a real phone plan. I think it's funny how people can pay their cell bill, cable bill, dish bill, internet bill, etc. but don't want to pay for the electric it takes to run all the toys. Then thy cry about coal and and this globle warming crap!! Well, what ya go'na do? Without?? Not me, I like my toys and my AC sure feels good when it was 90 degrees all summer.

To be simple, I prefer KU 10 to 1 over Jackson Energy. Not only because they are a little bit cheaper, but I have been treated better by KU reps as opposed to my experience with Jackson Energy

KU is a bit cheaper than JE, but electricity is expensive no matter who services the area. Those few penneys adds up, though. People talk about gas gouging, what about electricity gouging?? It is truly ridiculous that we live in a time where working people struggle more to pay an electric bill (they are not eligible for heating assistance). Wish I had put in a wood burner...

I wish they put better information on the bill. Its hard to determine what you are paying and for what.
For example some months I use more watts and the bill is cheaper because the Fuel Charge will be listed like this ($7.28) <-- example... like its a credit and some months it isnt like that.Does anyone know why there would be a credit for the fuel charge some months making the bill cheaper even though I used more watts?

Thanks for the link.Still not sure I completely understand but it seems the (amount) is a credit back if they didnt have to use extra from outside sources. If its not a credit then they did have to buy elsewhere and its added to the bill.
I suppose last month with the high temps AC use sent usage way up so no (amount credited)
Its good to know they credit back if they dont have to buy.The fuel charge appears to be what makes the bill go up or down quiet a bit. This is my 1st month on JE so still in process of understanding the billings. Thanks for your help.

KU used to be hands down cheaper than Jackson, but I just moved back to London and went from using KU to Jackson and to tell you the truth I haven't noticed a difference. My bill has actually been cheaper but I credit that up to my new home being better insulated. Unfortunately I guess the local electric companies are now equal when it comes draining our bank accounts.

yeah KU seems much cheaper.I use about half the kilowatts on Jackson that I used on KU and the bill is more. Its not the actual charge for the kilowatts but all the stuff thats added on.Surcharges and fuel costs etc.Not looking forward to winter.Going to use wood as much as possible.

According to the kentucky rate comparisons for 100 Kilowatt hours and the base charges KU would charge you $75.69, the same usage costs $108.93 for Jackson. Assuming the same usage across the year you would save $398.88 using the same energy with KU over Jackson Energy. Thats the same as getting 5.2 free months of electric.
