You're right,'Lysajane'; I was pointing out abuse of a government program. The abuse leads to government overspending which we, the taxpayers are directly paying for. I mentioned the years which the programs took affect. I never mentioned names of anyone being directly responsible for the programs.

'Claudette', I think that $3.00 figure came from me. My cell phone bill and land line bill combined are over 3.00 per month. And it's not about the $3.00 per month (actually it's almost $4.00) But the point is the abuse of a government program which I am helping to pay for. I realize there are elderly and disabled people who really need help and I don't begrudge one penny that goes to help them. But I have to budget my money; I try to save where I can and try not to waste. And I just want the government to do the same; no matter who is president; whether Democrat or Republican. It is my money, so I don't want to see them waste it.

It's a percentage of the phone bill and not everyone's is the same amount. If her phone bill is higher than yours, then her servince fund amount will be higher as well.

Your first link does.

The second one is by a nutcase guy sponsering a bill to do away with the cell phone portion of the act. Too, bad phone companies may no longer be required to have lines in all communities in the near future. Wonder what his plan is then?

Yes,'Country', I posted the links where I first discovered the information. And the links did.
The first link tells who the 'nutcase' is that you mentioned; he is Rep. Tim Griffin, Rep. AR. He is the one who has proposed a bill to ELIMINATE federal subsidies for free cell phones. The article also states that the program has also been highlighted for REFORM by Senator Claire McCaskill, Dem. MO.
I don't know what Rep. Griffin's proposal is other than to eliminate it. I don't agree with eliminating the program, but I do agree that reform is needed.

The last paragraph on that link says,“Pressure to reform the program led the FCC to announce an effort in February to “reduce the potential for fraud while cutting red tape for consumers and providers” by the end of 2013.”

I don't understand why people can't sift through information that's out there, form an opinion, state that opinion, and discuss it like adults; instead of taking offense every time the “O” name is mentioned. We can talk about any other politician on either side of the aisle; but Lord forbid anyone even infer the name of the sitting president. Oops! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned 'the current one'. How ridiculously childish!

Mine is $6.50. I understand what you're saying; sometimes it seems like every time I turn around, someone has their hand in my pocket. But I'm just thankful that I can pay my bills every month. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I know there are a lot of people who have a much tougher time making ends meet than I do. So I just count my blessings.

It is because of all the nuts who have called him names like Obomination, ect ,Antichrist, they have made it to where we don't listen because of all the nuts. But in fairness i don't believe he should be outed for a program all the other republicians supported, too.put all the presidents down along with him who have supported an item. But you are better at that than most.Gotta go watch the fireworks.I mean debate.

I understand fully what the point you're making, Claudette, and I agree with you that name calling should never enter into ANY conversation, and least of all in an adult one.
And I also agree that the program should not have been named,'obama phones'; but it was, just as the president's healthcare plan has become known as,'obamacare'. But I stated very clearly in my first post that the program started to include cell phones in 2008. And everyone should know Obama wasn't sworn in until Jan. 2009.
Oh well, I think some people just look for excuses to get mad about something.
You said in your post you were going to watch the debate last night. Were you able to watch all of it? I did, and I came away from it with a better impression of Mitt Romney than I had before. He obviously knows business economics. But I liked what he said about working together with Congress as he did in his own state of MA. That rang true with me, because he could show statistics of his track record in MA.
Sorry. I guess that last paragraph was off topic.
Have a great day,'Claudette'!
