SLHS staff and faculty had a meeting today. They will be having school.(Bummer for many of you I'm sure).

All students will be allowed to attend. But their parents will have to sign them out of class for the day. All teachers will be allowed to go. They said they will have us covered.

Mrs Jackson was a very good teacher. I loved her dearly as a fellow teacher and a dear friend.

Her layout services are tomorrow at 6pm at Souls Harbor Church and the Funeral services are at 2pm on Tuesday.

sure they have the teachers covered but when a student signs out early they are still counted as absent, unless the board is going to give them an excuse which i dont see happening.

as long as they have the obit from the funeral they will be excused, that's in any case.

My daughter is texting me right now and she is telling me how bad people are handling it this morning at school. She said it's crying all over. I know the teachers are suppose to hold it together for the children but a person is only human and can only take so much, I think as many people that knew her and as many people lives she has touched, School should have been called off for the day just to cope with the loose.

Pray for each person as well as the family. Today would have been a good day for parent volunteers to step in for those teachers to attend. I am sure they had people on hand to help each person coping with the loss. I heard this was a one of a kind lady and was greatly loved and a top notch teacher.

As far as what my daughter has told me this morning there were alot of counselors in the library this morning, But as far as for the kids, In this case the counselors are also needed for the teachers, staff, friends and students of Ms. Jackson.

There are counselors at the school today. I spoke with one of the teachers from SLHS yesterday & she said there were a lot of counselors & pastors scheduled to be at the school today to help the students & teachers cope.

Grief counselors are on hand at South. The students and teachers are welcome to come and dicuss and issues they may have dealing with grief of Ms. Jackson. The support and well-being of the students and teachers are priority and will be the priority as long as the need is there. Students may go to the library as a primary place to discuss issues. After the inital grief process, they may go the guidance office or the youth service center. These resources will guide to the appropriate resource.

I agree, Ms. Jackson was fabuluous! If you met her once, you had a friend for life. She believed in celebrating life and encouraging kids, she was all about the kids.

Why in the world would they call in comp care? Laurel County has Counselors that are trained far above comp care. Check out the creditials of the counselors in the Laurel County Schools? Check out the pay of the Comp Care Counselors compared to the school counselors. School counselors are trianed to go into schools for events like this.
