New Salem Baptist Church brought charges against a member/treasurer earlier this year. Does anyone know outcome of this? Three felony counts of theft were brought against the treasurer by the grand jury. Apparently, this church has not read or heeded to I Corinthians 5: 1 - 8. Never heard of this before but this is Greer's church with Greg Deaton being led around by the nose.

Sounds to me like you need to be in a church instead of talking about one. If you knew only a percentage of what you are talking about than you would know what happen. As far as the church being "The Greer" church you are wrong. It's God church. And if you knew one hair on Greg Deaton head you would know he is a wonderful preacher. With the Lord leading him he has made that church what it is today.

I am a child of God and involved in church. Again, read First Corinthians 5. I just have NEVER seen a church take a member to court. NKJV: "Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?" If Mr. Deaton is such a wonderful "preacher" he must not be a very good manager--not having a handle on the finances.

Are you kidding me?? You have tried to start trouble twice on here. This is your second attempt . I think you need to pay more attention in church and read your bible more. You for sure don't know Greg. If you did you would know what type of person he is. You have no ideal of what your talking about.you need to stop being so nosey and trying to start trouble. As for as the unrighteous comment, the church nor it's pastor did not break the law nor did they commit a sin. Or was the low life who claimed to be saved who was stealing from the church who in return stole from God and the people and charities that money helped ! Mr. Deaton had a handle on his finances or they would still be stealing from the church. I think you need a handle on your business and your walk with God!

My reply was a QUOTE from the Bible. I did not call you unrighteous or any other name. Read again and see the quotation marks. Or do you have to try to justify what you have done--maybe not breaking laws of the land, but doing exactly the opposite of what Christ taught--turn the other cheek. Perhaps you should examine yourself before you start "judging" me and MY WALK with God. Tit, tit, you are judging. But for an entire body of believers to not just accept the wrongdoing and vote the member out but to instead try to get back their contributions/tithes, this is very unusual and I wonder if it has every happened in a Southern Baptist Church.

Also, there is a typo: The quoted scripture is First Corinthians 6: 1-8. Not chapter 5. I have checked my ESV and NIV and commentaries and the language is all very similiar when it comes to dealing with a fellow church member. My quote was from New King James Version, but English Standard Version and New International Version of 1st Cor. 6: 1-8 are basically all the same. You are the one who needs to study and pray to God about the doctrines of your church. But I am not judging you and saying that you should examine your "walk" with God. You are acting as God when you try to judge someone, especially someone outside your church. Read the scriptures more throughly and see for yourself.

I would not even address the issue, God knows all, I do not know you are the church , however I do know Greg Deaton and he is a good man, the only thing that matter is that God is in control and will take care of all things. So in short I wouldn't give place to this issue,
God bless us all.

The main thing that Jesus taught was LOVE. Look at the woman caught in the very act of adultry and he said, who is without sin cast the first stone. The person called "London" referred to the one whom the church indicted as a "low life". Is that what Christ would have done? Some goody goody thinking they are above this individual indicted. I am only saying that our CHURCHES have to show LOVE to the community or else how can they see Jesus. Yes, this person who stole is a sinner, but we are to love them (the church is to love them). Not try to treat them like those outside the church treat them. LOVE: That is what we are to practice or ELSE YOU HAVE LOST THE ENTIRE POINT OF BEING A CHRISTIAN. Or are you like the Pharisees who go by a bunch of rules & just have "religion"? And "to London" said, God bless us all. But I would add, bless this individual who was indicted. Again, I find it extremely unusal that a church would do this instead of trying to restore that lost one to the fold.

I can't believe this is being discussed on here. It is not for anyone to judge the decision made by the church and Pastor Greg, nor is it for us to judge the defendant. God will handle the situation as he sees fit. I will say though, from what I know of Greg Deaton, I do not think he would make a hasty decision without spending much time in prayer and seeking the Lord's guidance. This was no doubt a hard decision to make.

Also, just knock it off. If I wasn't a saved, God fearing person, I would be so tuned off by you "Christans." Let's just let God's light shine, pray, and let God do the judging.
