wondering

United States

I have a friend who works there and I am wondering what is going on out there. He is talking about possible lay-offs and them making people use thier vacation days when the plant shuts down. It will be bad if they close down and all those people lose their jobs.
What Ive Heard

The way I understand it, they are having a period of "voluntary" layoff coming up in February and lasting through May. The employees have the option of getting unemployment checks for the period of time that they are off work or using their vacation days that they would have had over the next several years to cover that time. They are also not guaranteed to go back to work in the same department they were in once work resumes. Of course, that is just what I have heard...I'm sure there is someone else out there that may be able to explain it better and who knows more about the situation....

Aisin did ask for volinteer layoffs you could
chose 1,2,3 months layoff and drawl unemployment
if you want to work they can't garentee a full
work week due to cut backs from their customers,
and they couldn't garentee you stay in your
department either way if you worked or took off.
Bad thing is you have TL,and SR saying the ones
taking off will probably lose their jobs causeing
alot not volenteering which could mean they just
come and pick you out for layoff or VTO is what
Aisin is calling it. Aisin did garentee those who
took VTO a job to come back to and if they need
another temperary layoff they would go through
same procedure and get volenteers first. So Aisin
Team Member who decide to take VTO is believing in
HRs word that they still have a job because JG in
HR said so and he is big in to church hopefully
he isn't trying to pull wool over their eyes for
their sake. It is not Aisin's fault they are trying to hold on to everyone's jobs.

I dont know what your personal reasons for saying this for are, but you have no clue what this big of a layoff means. You obviously have no understanding about the state our economy is in or you would not say it! Do you realize just how many people Aisin provides jobs for? All of the money each of those workers make, goes back into the community. And if that money goes, there goes some of the business for our stores and other businesses. The state of Ky is low on funding for unemployment as it is, and more people getting it, will just make it worse. There are no jobs here right now as it is, and all of these people are going to need jobs, when their unemployment runs out and when Aisin does not reopen.(if this were to happen) That means more people out there looking for jobs, and not being able to afford to live. In turn this means more people looking to recieve help with bills and food stamps. You are really naieve if you think that Aisin closing will be a good thing for our community, you need to grow up a little cause we are getting ready to face harder times than we are now.

You must be freaking crazy! Some people need jobs and don't just go sign up on checks to live. My husband works there and that is what supports us and our 2 babies and our house and all that. I do work but my job is nothing compared to his, I mean we sure couldn't make it on my 2 little checks a month.
People need to wake up and realize things.

Aisin makes a lot of car parts right? The automotive industry is in the crapper. So layoffs at companies that supply the automotive industry would make sense. Aisin is a big employer for Laurel & the surrounding counties. I would think anyone that had sense enough to get in out of the rain would hope they stay in business. If you don't have the good sense to get out of the rain, at least do us a favor. The next time it rains just stand out in it & keep looking up.

A dumb statement. Too many are losing everything already. I hope they remain for years. I, being a union person, have to say this place has treated its employees right. I must say only one thing, the one who fired a person who did not miss a day in 2 yrs. volunteered all overtime, needs to be replaced. He knows who he is, and the company also. But that aside, no we need this company to stay afloat. It benefits the economy in London greatly. As for the one fired, after work, he took one drink from a bottle and went home and some little spy in the parking lot told. He never drank on the job, this little lady caused someone who gave 2 years with NO tardiness, or missed days injustice. You know who you are also. I heard karma got you though, hope I am right.

They just opened a plant near Clinton Tn. about an hr and a half drive from there. They were hiring not long ago. So I do find it hard to believe they will go out. If so blame those in charge over the past 8 years, not the companies. Lets put the blame where it lies. Free trade they loved. I wish they would trade themselves to another country.
