Okay, Davis and J. Sizemore have had a year to show their abilities as head and asst. coach at SL. Shall we say losers!!!!!!!!!! This record is simply unacceptable for South. Even one of North's parents commented that the South team had more talent, but the North team was better coached. What a disappointing season for the players parents, and fans.

South lost the game last night and a few others I watched this year by going away from the man that was hot. usually in the games I seen it was the hale kid (not sure of spelling). He didn't miss in the first half and had 17 of souths 24 points. He got two touches in the 3rd quarter and he had to get them hisself on offensive rebounds. South tried to go back to him late in game but it was to late. He hit 3 big shots late to keep them close. Bad shooting night for everybody else.

From what I've seen/heard is that talent in laurel county has ran dry. Both south and north laurel talent wise just keep getting worse every year. Jesse Sizemore is very knowledgable when it comes to basketball/coaching. You ever thought that just maybe your children aren't as good as you think??? The days of us (sl) winning state tiltles and dominating are over

Even michael jordan found out that one player can't win it all without playing team ball. A good player scores lots of points, a great player scores less but makes everyone else feel like they are part of the team. A good coach coaches his style, a great coach changes his style to allow the players he's got to win. Go Gereral Davis!

Have you watched the rest of the 13th region this year? The whole region sucks as bad as any region in recent memory. How do you explain that? It all goes in cycles, but if SL doesnt get their middle school programs headed in the right direction, there will be no players coming up. They will all transfer out.(basketball, football, and baseball.)

Steve Wright returning so he can be closer to his mistresses!

Gas is too high for him to rip and run back and forth on 80 between Somerset and London!

You are absolutely right - South did a poor job getting the ball in Hales hands in the 2nd half. He should have touched the ball every position.

This has been typical South ball all season long. Start out solid, come out in the second half and look clueless in half court sets. They had Corbin on the ropes twice and fell apart in the fourth quarter.
They have absolutely ZERO inside game, so teams can extend their D and pressure the guards all game long. The shooting got worse as the season went on, rebounding was bad, and their defense was pretty bad towards the end of the season.
I guess we can be hopeful, but there's not much talent in the middle school level either. So, for now, it looks like SL will have a few years of poor to mediocre basketball.

And I might add that there's already some grumbling about Coach Davis. I'd like to see the guy succeed, but I think he could be a short timer. SL should have done whatever it took to hire Rowan County's Shawn Thacker for HC. I'm afraid that Davis is going to be one of those great AAU coaches, but not able to put a program together at the Varsity level.

it's a no brainer to coach a recruited team of division 1 prospects, it's another thing to have to coach a team with no division 1 prospects. that shows your true coaching ability. since you're not supposed to recruit in high school, the coach must adapt his coaching style to get the most out of his players. with Davis it's my way or the highway.

there was no effort to develop an inside game to open the three point shot. there were big men that saw very little varsity action. how can you develop an inside game or team chemistry without playing time?

I agree with you. It has been pure torcher with General Davis at the helm and brown noser Private 1st Class Gomer Pyle (aka J. Sizemore). Coaching AAU doesn't make one a high school varsity coach. South was DESPERATE when they hired him. If he is let go, I hope the parents don't start the picketing and butting in on the decision the administration makes. The parents ran off the guy from Cumberland which was an excellent choice. He would have been a class act. Davis, I think not.
let them go

neither of souths coaches (davis or sizemore) has tenure, they should be replaced as soon as possible. then they can devote their full time to recruiting aau players for their summer teams!
thats not enough

being young and having a passion for the game doesn't result in a good coach, just look at davis and sizemore at south.

Davis needs time to put his stamp on the program and develop some kids coming up. Did he have a good year? No, but lets face it, if the roster was loaded Wright wouldnt have left. Laurel County has traditionally waited too late to develop basketball players. Adding elementary basketball was a step in the right direction, but as a county we can't depend on optimist and upwards to develop the kids ages 5-10. Davis and Brad Sizemore both need to get to these kids earlier. I've heard them both say that they will do this by controlling aau at these earlier age levels, let's see if they follow through. That's how you build a program, not waiting until kids are a freshman and seeing what hand you're dealt.

Good luck to North in Sweet Sixteen.

I absolutely agree with the need to develope kids earlier. It SHOULD NOT be limited to basketball. Look at South Middle's baseball program. What A JOKE!!!!!!!!!! Need some coaches that can develope these kids but that also has the respect of the high school coaches and can work together with them. Let's fill a seat not with someone who's qualified but with teachers who have no clue!!! UMMMM What's a foul ball???
