Heard that they were going to start sports in Elementary Schools next year. Has anyone else heard this and what grades are being considered? Is this just basketball or what?

I have heard that it will more than likely be happening, but hasn't been officially approved yet.

Sports will be open to students in Grade 5 only and will include:
-boys and girls basketball
-cheerleading

Schools with carpeted gym floors will be re-done and have hardwood courts put in them for sports purposes. All games will be played in the county, and if I understood it right, South schools will play other South feeder schools, and North schools will play only other North feeder schools. Not sure what they will do about London Elem. which has kids that go to both.

Sports, every one knows that sports is more important than academics. We need more academic teams, not more sports teams. Where is the money going to come from, more taxes. Maybe if we have more sports your child will be able to play after the 5th grade. Think for a moment, of all the kids that play sports, only .62% go on to play college sports. That number is less than that for whites. My son was 1st team all state, played and started all 4 years of college, he did get his degree, sports takes away from the class room.

i see your point but kids need sports to you dont have to put your child in it , its not for every child all children are differ.my child played for awhile and was academic to , so why not do both as long as they stay out of trouble that what matters to me

Wow!.62% That is an amazing number. Because that is probably a higher percentage than that of parents in Laurel Co. that can afford to send there kids to college without some kind of scholarship. Do me a favor and figure up how many kids in Laurel co. have gotten academic scholarships in the past 20 years compared to how many have gotten free rides on a athletic scholarship. I don't care what your son or anyone elses son has done. Once they get a free ride and get to college it is up to them. You know, the whole "you can lead a horse to water" thing. So I would finish with saying that you are 100% wrong and very uneducated and unrealistic on this whole topic. IMHO

You guys are behind the times. I am shocked. I thought every elementary had sports for 4th and 5th while some have it for even younger. Ball of all sorts, cheerleading, dance, and wrestling. Are there really cave dwelling elementary schools that do not have it?

Each school is supposed to play 11 games, one for each school including East Bernstadt.

High School or higher 64.3% Bacbelors or higher 11.5%. Too many people are looking for a free ride. The free rides are few and far between. source, zip skinny demographic information for zip code 40741 May I ask who is the uneducated one here.

Well, just based on your spelling I would say you are the uneducated one. But other than that you give absolutely no information based on what I asked. Athletic scholarships given versus academic scholarships given in the past 20 years. Try to keep in mind the thousands that are very smart and would have loved to go to college but the parents just simply couldn't afford it. But I'm sure your neat little websites you find your info on will not have those numbers.(It's Bachelors and associates.)

As long as South girls 6th grade coach doesn't get a hold of them they'll be fine. Worst coach in the county.

Each elemtary has already been playing for the last three years.I just hope the parents don't make these kids hate eachother as much as the north/south kids.

from what I saw didn't look like a THE TEAM this year. Talent seemed pretty well even across the board. one team or two may have had a little more than others but overall pretty even.

They need basketball from 3-5 grade
Football a&b team 3-5 grade
Baseball 50/70 for 5th grade

Keep them active and help our HS to be more competitive in sports
