"The mother said she originally didn't intend to call police, but after seeking counseling for her son, a counselor directed her to police.'I didn't want to ruin anyone's life, but this was the thing to do.'"

How could a parent hesitate to contact police in a matter like this...also, as a former teacher, what the heck was she living with a student's family for, economic difficulties or not?! This is a sick story!

This story is very, very sad for everyone involved. But, I also feel it is peculiar on some level. I can not understand why
Ms. Pappas was living with this family for 5 years? There seems to be a back story to this incident. It does not in any way take away from the vile nature of this crime but it does open the door to many questions about this unusual living arrangement.

WTF?? Someone sexually assaults your kid and you are worried that you might ruin the sexual predator's life?

Way to be an advocate for your kid...

Oh come on! At 15 or 16 years of age boys are sexually active and ho**ny. He knew what he was doing, he wasn't raped. They enjoyed each other, so what? Its not like he was 10 or 12... 15 or 16 is a normal sexually active age. If the boy did that at his own will and wasn't pushed to do that, then the lady shouldn't stay in jail for 5 years... She should loose her privelege of teaching and complete some community hours. When 16 years old girls date 24 years old guys... Should they be going to jail too now????

Definitely an unusual living arrangement. But I think if Pappas were a man, the sentence would likely have been much more harsh. Why is it more acceptable for a woman to do this? Behavior like this is inexcusable, regardless of the offender's gender, and a woman should be treated the same as a man in the same circumstance.

The son needed counseling? What a wimp.
He probably didn't, and considered it a lucky friendship. His mom just couldn't adjust to his being 16, she still thinks of him as 6. There is never a situation that a counseler thinks doesn't need counseling, they make their living that way, even if it does more harm then good.

I'm sure that the contact between the BOY and his former ADULT teacher was consensual...they were in "love"...yada, yada, yada. This is probably why the mother was hesitant to contact the police in the first place...her son did not feel particularly victimized. THAT IS NOT THE POINT!! You really have to wonder about these adults...male or female...that are seeking (sexual) relationships with youth. Whether it's Mary Kay Letourno or Drew Peterson, they are NOT stable. Do we really want these types of people teaching our kids??? Jail or prison is the only place they won't have any access to children!

Good Grief! Why wasn't it like this when I was in Jr. High school. I would have been all over my Social Studies, English, and my Home Room teachers. What an impact these fine ladies left on my Psyche. I walked around all day with slivers.

This is a two-way story; the teacher needed a "cheap" place to live and the mother needed a "cheap" live-in babysitter. Only the "son" grew up before her unbelieving eyes! It's a sad situation for all.

a 15 or 16 year old boy would have sex with a doll. I think the boy was enjoying his live in lover.

i'd like to hear his side of the story..........

was he complaining??

Oh, yeah, it's tough for every man that has been sentenced for 15 YEARS for the same crime; this pop-tart gets sympathy? What a sexist fiasco. She should be made out to be a monster just like the media does when a man is charged.

Probation would have been better. What's a teacher to do in a stinking prison cell that would benefit society. Our laws are to harsh. Confine her to her home with a ankle brace; let her teach in the day hours. We don't have the taxes to throw every person in a prison Mr. and Mrs., Ms do'righters.

And I feel the same way for men. Now, for violent forcible rape/sodomy that should be judged more harshly.

What, you think 15 and 16yo girls aren't sexually active and h**ny too? And yes, 24 yo guys go to jail all the time, and it's called rape whent they do it. But for some reason you think it's ok for a 41yo woman to rape a teenage boy.

As much as I would have loved my physics student teacher at my house as a junior in HS...

As a dad I can't sat way-to-go to my 2 sons if they could score this lady, and then strangle the guy who does this to my daughter. We're ready to castrate the man at Orland Park Mall, but this guy is a hero?

Conflicts with every Meatballs/Porky's-esque movies out there, but you can't have it both ways.

I have to go along with #5's statements. I fully believe that (1 the boy is either brain dead and has no idea what he partook of for the last year.(2 He knew full well what he was doing and knew it enough to continue for the last year.Or,(3 He had full knowledge of his actions, enjoyed what he was doing and also knew that what he was doing was flat out wrong! Gee!!! I think I'll go with door #3. This is not to say the teacher shouln't be punished, she should and I believe what's good for the goose is good for the gander. She should be punished the same way a man would be had a man committed the same crime.

Jeff, It's not rape when a woman with her dress up can run faster than a guy with his pant's down
