I also took classes there but it was 9 years ago. We had to take a test and pass in order to graduate. We also took a test through the AMA in order to be registered not just certified. But if you don't pass the registration test you can retest but you will have to pay for it yourself, but as long as you pass the class and graduate you can still work in WV. Things might have changed since then, hope this helps you out

This makes us look bad.Yes we did have students that didn't finish or pass the classes and you cannot work as a medical assistant if you don't have the certification.

I didn't say anything bad, I was just telling them how it was when I was there. Personally I enjoyed taking the classes there and I received very good training. I am currently working as both a RMA and RPht.

I also took the classes at Med Care and every time that I applied for a job any where, they just laughed at me and told me that I need to go through the college for these certifications. So after 2 years and about 15 different people, I was told the same thing every where.

I took the classes there, got my National Registrations for Phlebotomy and Medical Assistant and a State Certficiation in CNA. I've been working as a Medical Assistant for 4 years now, in 2 different facilities. If you just took the class and didn't take the boards, that's your baby and you can rock it yourself, don't give it to Tammy and Bobbie to babysit. The certifications are also good in Kentucky unless you are referring to CNA, I am not sure about that one because it was the West Virginia State Board of Examiners at West Virginia State College in Institute, WV that we went before to take those. Go Figure, if you HAVE the Certifications in your possession, how would anybody laugh at you and tell you you needed to go to College as opposed to Professional Trade School? That's like saying an LPN from Ralph R Willis isn't as good as an LPN from SWVCTC because the word College isn't in the name of the School.

The first thing to learn is you do not take "State Boards". As you said in your post there is not a state board overseeing the programs for which you were trained. What you do take is certification exams. For the CNA it is a state certification exam. Phlebotomy and Medical Assisting is a national certification exam. Just make sure you take a nationally recognized certification exam. Some certification exams are not worth the paper they are written on.

Drop by the facility and ask. Either instructor would not care to help and will hand you an application. WIA covers tuition and uniforms for clinicals. MA took 8 weeks with review week included and Phleb took six. Clinical hours vary to which class is taken.
