How many of you, other than myself, have fallen victim to the mandatory 15% gratuity that is added to your bill @ Giovannis when there is more than 8 in your party.

You know what sucks? We didn't even intend on having that many. There were 4 of us, but another family we knew showed up, made it 9, and we got stuck with more on our bill. Guess who DIDN'T get any EXTRA tip on the table? The waitress who retardedly put us all together.

Oh yeah, they also add a $3.00 tip to your bill if you have them deliver your food. Now, the other night, I ordered a pizza, and the total was almost 15 bucks. I gave the driver a 20, and when he handed me my 5 back he acted like I was gonna give it to him....NEGATIVE. He didn't deliver it very far at all, anddd he already got $3. How much more did he want?

and they add a fuel charge for delivery. it takes them like 3 hours or LONGER to get something delivered! they should give US a discount! last time i ordered from there, i picked it up and it still took almost 2 hours to fix breadstix!!!!! i havent been back since. i love their food, but they have crappy service and try to rip you off anyway they can.

I was wondering if the owner is aware of the fact that some of the girls exaggerate the wait time for delivery over the phone to discourage people from placing orders? I had a girl tell me "about 2 1/2 hrs" & I needed the time between to get ready for family & said ok..It was only 45 minutes if that before my pizza was delivered, I've even asked "well what if we pick it up?...they say "about the same"...when you tell them nevermind you can hear their happy voice as they say ok & hang up the phone. That has really caused me to stop ordering. It's bad for business to discourage customers from being customers. I'll bet their boss doesn't know this. He has a great place w/ great food, I just don't get it when that happens. It doesn't even have to be a crazy time like Super Bowl or New Year's (when you know you'd better order ahead of time) It's not been EVERY time I call but it happens often enough to keep me from even thinking of the place when we need to order out. Has this happened to anyone else?

Me and my boyfriend tried calling and order in for pizza one day, we was right across the road at Speedway, and there was no-one in the parking lot. No-one answered the phone, after several attempts someone fianlly did, we placed our order and when he went in there to pick the pizza up, he asked why no-one was answering the phone, and they told him that they WERE very busy and packed when I had tried to call the order in. He told them that we was right across the road when we called and there wasn't one car in their lot. They told him he was lying!

I love it too! I usually do pick up too, but anymore it seems that when a couple of them answer the phone they tell some big long wait time (for pick up and delivery) & I just forget it and call elsewhere. The food there is awesome & the place is great, but I think that when stuff like that happens it undermines the business itself & does more harm than good.

All restaurants add a tip to parties of 8 or more. Usually it's 18%. It's because frequently with parties that large, the waitress works very hard & doesn't get an adequate tip.

Logan, I don't even know who it is, but it happens alot & me & my hubby LOVE their subs & hot wings. My family from out of state Loves their pizza & always order when they come in (they even get enough to take back out of state w/ them to heat up at their home) Now THAT says something about the food. It's just disappointing at times when that happens.(not doggin' the place itself or the owner) Only the workers shouldn't do junk like that.

Well, regardless of how many people are in the party, I believe a tip should be given according to the service you receive. And the lady that posted in the beginning said that she had not inteded on being a party of 8, that they kinda got stuck in it. I think 18 or 15% forced gratuitys are rediculous. I know one of my friends (who shall remain nameless lol) just refuses to give it to them, they deduct the amount from the total and tell them no. Tips should NEVER be mandatory, they are a 'thank you' for good service, and shouldn't be expected.

if you wanted separate checks, you should have said so. waitresses can't read your mind.
and the 15% gratuity is added for a reason. have you ever waited tables? i have. and logan is the worst place i've ever worked when it comes to cheap tippers.
so imagine for a minute that you're a server. a group of 8 ppl walks in with their snot-nosed brats and bitchy women. they sit in your section. they run your ass off more more bread, napkins, silverware (b/c the lovely children invariably drop theirs), refills, etc. when they finally leave, the place is wreck. drinks are spilled, food is spread onto the table, chairs, floor, even the walls. and they only leave you a dollar.
THAT'S why the 15% is added. 15% is MORE than fair. i usually tip 20% and sometimes more for great service. waitresses on average make $2.13. they survive on their tips. if you don't want to leave a tip, then maybe your cheap ass should go pick up your own food.

Well if ya wanna biotch about a tip, Here's your tip. Go to shool and get yourself a better job. That's your Job as a Waitress to wait on people, so if ya dont like it. FInd somthing else. I always leave a tip, but when the waitress sucks, or acts like it is killing her to go get refills, more napkins, more silverware, or more bread, then I only leave a few dollars. Get over it!!

I agree with you, it should not be mandatory. It is in appreciation for your good service. I see why they do it though, some people, no matter how hard you work, they will not leave a tip. Maybe, everyone should have to bust their butt in a busy restaurant for about a month, to see how it is.

how do these restaurants get away with paying their workers 2.15 an hour when min. wage is I think around 7.00 I think its pitiful how they are paid. A tip should be for good services not for making up for the wages. The owners are cheating the workers this way.

Im with Allison
So sorry you have to "run your ass" but you know what you are going to deal with when you become a waitress and if you want that big tip then you better "run your ass" as you say. Go to school. Better yourself and you wont have to be a waitress

I have read all these posts and have laughed at most. These girls that wait on party's do deserve gratuity. Its not just at Giovanni's it's any restuarant you go to. In my opinion delivery service is a luxury therefore we should have to pay a fee. With the way this economy is im sure their insurance for these drivers have increased, gas prices, and mostly finding someone that will work. I always order from giovann's and yes sometimes it does take awhile to get your food b/c they are the best place in town!! All owners and or foodservice employees that i talk to talk about how hard it is to find reliable, trustworthy, drug free employees. So please people give these men/women a break!! Remember some have no means of going to college. And some waitresses make more than some that have went to college.

the drivers that work at giovannis dont get the 3.00 dollars that is charged.also the drivers have to pay for gas to bring you your food because people are to cheap to spend their own gas money. The waitresses that work there for the most part work their buts off for snot nose people who think they are better because they have a high paying job but yet they gripe abut leaving a tip.
