Well, I dont know what everyone else thinks. I just saw this and couldn't resist. Teacher salaries are not competitive in this state. Who needs good teachers though when we have our little Wilma in Wonderland.
While our teacher salaries may not be anywhere near competitive I sure bet Wilma gets paid right up there with some local Attorneys, and Physicians.
THANKS WILMA AND FRIENDS....

Wilma makes close to what the highest "supers" get in the state, and our teachers make much less than teachers in those counties get..

If you would read the post coaches raises, you will see that the board is planning to use $100,000 to give all the coaches some kind of a raise. Another conflict of interest since one of the board members' so has gotten 3 coaching jobs since he got on the board 3 years ago.
interesting

I am not going to comment for fear of libel. BUT thanks for your suggestion.

Maybe we should all use this knowledge to rethink who we will vote for.

In the Past I thought a lot of Moss Burgess. At First he didn't eat out of her hand like the others. NOW I am questioning that.

ALSO, the popular lady, whose name I will not mention, I love her but MAN, she has even supported Momma the past few times.

You would support her too, if she or her staff drove you anywhere you wanted to go; plus she wants to get her grandson all the summer work that she can.
One of the other ones is just interested in getting his son raises for all the coaching jobs that he has been given since daddy got on the board three years ago.
Also, I don't think it can be considered libel is it is the truth.

i am a teacher...and no. it is sad. teachers are important in the country but it is not reflected in pay. a man can't hardly become a teacher and support his family now. it works better for a woman that has a husband that makes good money. we all like what we do...teaching just doesn't pay much. a well known fact in this country. hard to pay your loans back...why hardly anyone is becoming teachers now.

Question Time....
Lets all take a moment out of our lives to consider something. A few years ago, they leveled the Baseball Field and the Girls Softball Field.
Now a few years into the Future we see that the Boys were given the Chapmanville Appalachian Power Park.
The Girls still have no place to play softball.
I like BBall and I support our team ect. BUT why are the girls getting the shaft?

Girls sports have never been supported in Logan like the boys teams. You have to think about this, who has boys playing ball or coaching?

Sadly it is true that the teachers are underpaid while people who are figure heads and nothing more are getting all the money and perks.

The rumor about the new elementary school is a true one. If the BOE can acquire the property they are building a consolidated elementary school combining Verdunville, Logan Grade, and possibly Justice or Holden. Last I heard it was on a five year plan.

Logan Grade will be the new BOE offices and the other schools will be used as media centers or storage.

As for a Principal of this new high tech elementary school I have heard that Auntie wants one of her nephews to get the job. Being queen of the BOE she will get her way unless she is not voted in again in 2012. She has commented that she never has to campaign, Logan county will elect her no matter what. Wonder what she spent her big campaign contribution on that Joe C gave her last tine? Maybe he will tell that too :)

Granny will have to be led around with a chain if she is still around in 2012. Her voting for a raise for gap tooth was turned a lot of people off. I guess she changed her mind about gap tooth since she drives her everywhere she wants to go and makes her think she is half-way competent.
Wonder what summer jobs she has lined up for Logan through the county commission?

you are so right!! i have heard all this too!! stop this consolidation ideal!!! or it will happen. we need our individual grade schools. it has never been the same since, henlawson, stollings, dehue, etc were all shut down. the kids do much better in small schools. don't let this happen!! if you have kids in logan county...don't let it happen!!

I agree the children do much better in small schools. The level that they are put on due to enrollment makes it impossible to meet standards most of the time and they never get anything like Title 1 distinguished or Exemplary School when they are consolidated.

I wonder what the cost will be for the upcoming glade springs 2/3 day meeting for our principals and central office staff? Why do they need to go off and who is left to take care of things in the county.
Add this one to the growing list of big expenditures- her raise, LCC constant rentals, and
a new vehicle. What about all the people who have
vehicle who get to take them home every evening?
Cut out all these extras and there would be enough money for a decent salary raise for everyone.

here is how I see it. A few years the Wondeful State of West Virginia closed Lory Julian Elementary. In doing so, they closed the ONLY National Blue Ribbon Award Winning School West Virginia has EVER had. But look at the Detention Center that now resides in its walls. GO CONSOLIDATION!!!!!

My family and I went to Glade Springs last summer and four days and three nights cost us over $1200 for a family of four.
I can only imagine the tab that the BOE is picking up for everyone to go. I agree that they should not have to travel to another county to take care of things in this county. Why not just meet at the country club like always?
Oh well, I suppose it's all right to look like you have money and go to a resort instead of consider teacher raises and things for our children. Wonder what they'll learn at the spa and golf course?

I agree, this expense, plus the creation of an additional $80,000 central office director of special education position, is just more money down the drain. Jim Guy was handling special education, what will he be doing now?

I called glades springs about this so called retreat and the tab for each person attending is around $300 not including travel. I figure that this will cost a mimimum of $15,000 if not more. If this is paid for out of grants, why not use county/levy money and give the employees a raise?
Agreed

Another nice OVER expenditure is the fact that they replaced one person who recently retired with two people.
Two principals will now be paid big bucks because they moved into the Boards Office. Two principals will be paid huge salaries to fill one persons position. I heard they made the job into two positions in order to get these particular people into higher positions. Apparently, they are very good friends with you know who. I do know that 'you know who' wanted one of them to receive Principal of the Year last year for 2008-2009.
Again, congratulations Logan BOE for spending more for less and slighting the actual worker bees and giving praise and props to the drones.
Agreed

Glade Springs will be a social event like all the meetings in such Resorts. I don't see why they just don't use the Logan Country Club like they usually do, they really give them a lot of business. It would not cost $300 a person at the Logan Country Club but then again, it's not a resort with all those nice amenities. Every educational seminar needs a big leisure center with a full spa, olympic size pool, movie theater, bowling alley, fitness center, and not to mention a very fancy hotel room to stay in or a private apartment style house. Who could possibly benefit from a meeting held in Logan about Logan County Schools?
Lap of luxury. Must be nice. I know my taxes probably contribute to things like this. SO happy to help...NOT!

Is this meeting at Glade Springs just for Logan County or is it a state meeting?
