How long ago and what happened? I live in Ohio now and don't come to Logan very often maybe once a year. But in 77-78 this guy just picked on me seemed like he paddled me everyday told me I would never amount to nothing.when I was about 23. I saw him walking on the street i thought of just running him over

I think he was dismissed for leaving the cheerleaders At an away game without a ride or something to that efect. I take a different look than you do even though he was extremely tough on me I think he helped turn me into a man

I was a young small 7th grader didn't turn 12 until late in the year and he was a bully. he once pulled me out of class and paddled me for not having a note from home for an absence day which I did turn in and when I found it on his desk all he said was "my bad". He embarrassed me all the time cutting me down in front of my peers. He was wrong when he said I wouldn't amount to nothing I am very successful in my career and private life, NO THANKS TO HIM. I was just wandering if it ever caught up with him.

Coach Vance turned my life around he may have yelled at me and he was very hard on me but I one it was because he expected more from me, it made me push harder than even I thought I could and achieved great things in my life because of the work ethic he instilled in me

He was an abusive teacher who should have gotten fired a long time ago. The school system will not do that, the teachers union plays a strong part in bad, abusive teachers staying in the system. Vance was terrible and got away with it.

Steven R. Vance was an awesome coach, is a great man.
He pushed people, yes. But he pushed to drive you to become more than what you were, you know like coaches used to. E.g. Bear Bryant. He had fire in him and wanted to light a fire in you. Mate you accomplished what you have not in spite of but because of him......

Let me guess you were either a football player or a cheerleader because that is the only people I ever seen him be good to. He was a flat out creep that would scream and yell and belittle his students if you were not into sports you were treated like gum on his shoe. I am glad he got fired it was about time to bad it could not have been years ago because he was nothing but a bully and left many scars on his students.

In the 1979 kitten tracks yearbook theres a section called student memory, one student memory they would never forget was Mr. Vances paddle because, he said "he paddled me alot", wow what a great memory.I agree if you were a popular kid, played sports he treated you different. I didnt play sports until I moved to Ohio where I was an all league football player lettered in 3 sports. Went on to college years later and graduated 1st in my class, in the top rated nursing program in the nation. But because of Mr. Vance i skipped over 20 days of school and almost failed out.I know the abuse of these kind of people are not limited to a few. I also believe things have a way of catching up with you and was wondering how it caught up with him

I know my accomplishments and I also know the difference in writing on a forum and writing an apa paper. I've found some posts from 09 that were generated by others who have had similiar experiences with him in the past. There is good in everybody but bullying by teachers like Mr. Vance can not be tolerated. Don't be a contributor to the problem is my words for you.

Steve never bothered me, but i watched him bully others. He had a weird relationship with a Kinney girl in the early eighties, she was 14 or 15. That man should have never been able to teach. Nasty, nasty man.

Coach Vance got arrested and fired for trying to get a 5th grader to give him oral sex (I lived there when it happened). He was a perverted and cruel teacher. I remember I was the new girl and started his English class in the middle of 8th grade. I was small, shy, and quiet so one day when I had the misfortune of "having a lady accident" in his class when everyone else left he noticed I was still there he got me a woman teacher to call my mom so in the middle of my embarrassment I ran home and didn't look back. In the middle of class the next day he called me out on it in front of the entire class, I was mortified. Then when I went up to him after class to talk to him about what he did he cornered me in the classroom and kept pushing his big gut into my chest while telling me he was "just looking out for me" because of him I missed so much school I ended up almost not passing 8th grade. If he really did spend time in jail he got what he deserved.

I remember that well. Pauline Kinney and I were friends. He would bring her to school every day and take her home. I always wondered about that going on and why nobody said a word about it. It was common knowledge at that time. I have to say that Steve never did pick on me at all and I did well in his English class 8th or 9th grade I don't remember which. I have to agree that he was a bully and was hell on others. I haven't seen him in years, hadn't really even thought about him. Does anybody know if he's still around or what ever happened to him?

You people are pathetic. The girl over the oral sex incident was mad because he wouldn't GIVE her grades to her; he never asked her to perform oral sex on him. That's a flat out lie. I was the furthest thing from a cheerleader and he was always so nice to me and made a major impact on my life. Losing him as a teacher was a loss to the school. Just because he didn't put up with bull crap in his classes didn't make him a bully. He was a no nonsense teacher. If you respected him, he respected you; it was that simple. He and his wife are wonderful people, and its sad that years later people are STILL talking about him!

Coach Vance pushed me to become something I probably would have never dreamed of on my own. The work ethic he help instill in me has helped me now 15 years after my last interaction with him in school. He expected more from me than I expected of myself and I'm thankful that he pushed, yelled and cussed me to realizing that potential. I know Coach could care less what you whiny puss bags have to say about him and I personally hope you fall down a flight of stairs.
