Several years ago a female was killed in almost the same place because a big tree fell on her vehicle. Her Grandchild survived, but had to somehow walk around fallen power lines. I heard the land company settled out of court for one million. Also heard the husband of the deceased woman requested that the land company to clear cut the large trees that needed cut. Apparently the land company never did exercise this option. This sorry land company should be so ashamed to had not done the right thing. If they would had cut the trees that needed cut then this tragedy would have never happened. Just to many trees on our highways. It's a wonder more Logan County resiidents are not hurt or killed because of these big trees just looking like they could fall at any time. Our state needs to get more involved in having trees that are a danger to everyone to have someone like a contractor to remove them. Sad day in Logan County. Something like this should have never happened, especially in almost the same place of the last tragedy. Prayers to the family. Does anyone know who the land company is?

Common sense is not alive in Logan County anymore. Why does our State allow these big trees to continue growing along our roadways. A contractor could work for a long time just making our roads more safer if the State would use common sense and get a lot of these trees cut. It won't be long until something like this will probably happen again.

The man killed today was my first cousin, Carl Allen Adkins, 29 Defense attorney for Adkins and Zamow law. Our family is heartbroken. To the lady that witnessed the accident, can you please tell us what happened. We are all devastated.

The state owns the land and has the right-of-way within a number of feet from the center of the road....is this correct?

It all happened so fast. The most I remember was hearing the tree break and I saw the tree fall over the truck after the tree hit it shattered as I seen it fall I slammed on my breaks. It was so devastating to witness it and I never wanted to ever see something like that or my kids see it. I prayed so hard for that poor man. I'm so sorry and I pray for his family and friends.

To Dudebro- you know the state already is aware of all these big trees that have been growing, falling, and sometimes even causes death. If the Governor would say, Hey let's do something about these trees to protect our citizens from harm then the problem of seeing trees lining the roadways would get better. Just this week I did see the a few State Road Workers and a chipper working on the corridor, but they were only cutting little trees that we're growing alone the Interstate. Little trees cannot hurt you, so why can't the State realize this and start cutting the trees that truly need cut.

I'm glad you came here to help his family understand what happened. The healing process is a long one, but it begins with answers. The family and friends will need all the information they can get.

Have you tried contacting the DOH, or are you just whining?
Contacting the DOH!!! Are you kidding me!!! Do you not think they don't drive the same roads we do!!! They know of trees hanging over roadways. They are the ones that are accountable for this!!! It's their jobs to maintain safe roads for the public. They know these trees are accidents just waiting to happen. And regretfully it did happen to a very good person.

Jess, Thank you for explaining what happened. Im sorry your kids had to witness such a thing. According to physicians who have examined him, he died on impact due to severe head trauma. He felt no pain and it was instant. He didn't even realize it happened they said. Theres no way he could have. For those of you who want to know, the herald dispatch has the best explanation of who he was and what happened. He was very very close to my family, like another sibling to me. We are devastated and quite frankly still in complete shock.

For one I am very sorry this happened. But the D.O.H doesn't own every tree in the state. I do believe its 30 feet from center line. So lets not go pointing fingers. If u read any of the earlier posts we do have land companies around here. And still it was a freak accident and it could have happened to any of us. Again I'm sorry it happened. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
