Deputies say a Logan County man who died Saturday might have shot himself accidentally.
Logan sheriff's deputies went to a home in the Curtis area of Man late Saturday to investigate after residents reported a friend who had been missing had been found dead near his home, according to a statement issued by Chief Deputy Sonya Porter. The incident initially had been reported as a missing man.
Friends told deputies Oscar Hearl Coburn, 67, was missing from his home and hadn't been heard from. The friends, who have not been identified, went looking for Coburn and found him dead on a dirt road near his Lorado home, Porter said.
Deputies found Coburn in the woods about 1,000 feet from his home in an area he frequented. Friends told authorities Coburn built small roads back into the mountains where he gardened.
Porter said after investigating it appeared Coburn might have accidentally shot himself.
Deputies and paramedics used all-terrain vehicles to retrieve Coburn's body from the woods. His body was sent to the office of the state Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Evidence collected at the scene was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for investigation.
