What do you think about it?? I think we need to get rid of Obama and get someone in there that can take care of this country. It's a shame he's got us in this mess.

The president didn't tell alpha to cut back, the coal market did. If you wanna get mad at someone, get mad at the gas company or someone in Illinois undercutting the coal market. How about get mad at your last president who set you all up for failure and got out of office. I'm sure he got tons of stock in natural gas, the main thing that's gonna cause a lot of families to starve!! Bad mouth gas drilling instead of the president. Get mad at your good brokers on the stock market buying coal from overseas cause it's cheaper. Wake up!!!!!

Ok, I'm pretty sure that many miners voted for a man that wanted to do something to the mining industry--to end it. And that man was not Bush. Our current president wants greener energy sources, but yet the current sources can't be maintained until that happens--it must be cut immediately.

Fact is when you talk cleaner coal, the only way to have clean coal is to not mine it! It's a bit dirty to mine, sorry to let people know that.

Ya know, it's been years since Clinton wanted green jobs too. Why aren't we bitching about his lack of follow through? Or Jimmy Carter's efforts?

I'm sorry, but some of you don't realize that there are many Democratic MILLIONAIRES (AKA RICH FOLK that are in the Democratic Party) or you want to sweep that under the rug. This "Republicans are for the rich only" crap is just that, crap.

You're probably seeing the unemployment rates nationally at a decrease due to the holiday jobs, which are seasonal at least 75% of them. Whatcha gonna say when the unemployment rises again?

BTW, Alpha ain't gettin any money for bailout like GM. Oh and GM now does some work in Britain and not US. Jobs for Americans indeed.

The president sure the hell isn't doing anything to help the coal industry!! Time for a new one!! He couldn't do any worse than we have now!!!!!!

The coal is cheaper overseas because we are overregualted. They have no regulations in china, singapore and all those countries. obama said when he took office nobody was going to be able to afford to mine coal. The democrats voted for cap and trade. That measures carbon power plants and other things like manufacturing omit into the air. They are charged according to carbon output. And that is why power bill has increased. Appalachain Power had to close a bunch of plants to change things according to cap and trade law passed by democrats. They pass the cost on to us.

What makes you think I didn't want mining? Maybe you should leave your cliche at home when you don't understand things and actually ask "WTF"

Perhaps you'll understand things more. Either that, or you saw "Bush" and immediately turned off the light in your head that's your brain.

By the way, there are still some NUCLEAR power plants in the US. While Coal does a lot of the work towards electricity being generated....it's not the end all be all. And taking it away today, doesn't mean new energy sources would be running today...

Which means candles....and if you voted for the man that is anti Coal, because your Union bretheren said to.... it bit you in the ass, not me. So, sorry about your damn luck.

That's just down right mean..There are people out there that are worried about how they will feed their families and this is all you have to say. It's sad that good men have lost their jobs and someone like you still has yours.

These are normal methods for a SCAB Coal Company like Alpha. Massey did the very same thing when they took over the Coal operations. It's the same old process of closing the operations and getting rid of the Union.
Alpha and Massey are no different, they just changed the name of the Company.
SCAB is still the bottom line.

Union? Are you talking about the same Union that agreed to a contract that had a no strike clause in it and then had to pay fines for violating that clause. Payments that lead to the selling of a UMWA hospital in Man to pay those same fines. That lead to a company taking over that hospital in Man that eventually was unable to keep that Man Hospital running, which lead to it's closure?

That Union?
