I think its highly that the article doesn't do justice to the severity of the 'filth' situation. There are COUNTLESS hoarders out there, hoarders of everything, including garbage. Until you have physically stepped inside the home of someone like this, you have no way of comprehending the sheer disgustingness of it, and yes, they can absolutely be unsafe, especially to a young child. Lots of things can fester and grow in the dark shadows created by 3 foot high ocean of garbage and junk. Often in homes like these there are pathways just 6 inches wide in which the residents walk through rooms. Arrest for something like this sounds harsh, but mental illness or not, if you have a child then you have a responsibility to keep them healthy and safe, and an environment like that does not do either.

I do think a messy home is not a place to raise children. I know of someone in my town that you can bearly walk into her home, there is cloths and dirty diapers all over the floor. Thier kitcken table is so full of junk that they can't even sit down and get dinner. The kitchen you can not even walk into. Garbage on the floor. A four bedroom home but all three girls share a room because the others are so full of stuff. She has rroms full to the ceiling for junk. Now she is on her 4th child due in a few months, Is that a safe plces to raise children???

I am not trying to be, well you home is messy you can't raise your kids right. But i came from a messy home. And yes we were taken away from my parents. And they did not ever get us back. Looking back it was the right thing to do. But can i say that is right for every messy home. I am not sure. But it does seem unfair that a child has to live that way.

<quoted text>Really? Kids taken away because of a mess? There are plenty of reasons people live voluntarily in filth. The same reasons people are compulsively clean or germaphobes. The answer is....people are different. There are lazy people, go-getters and everything in between. I would really like to know exactly what law this couple broke. I could see if there was feces or urine in a childs bed or maybe a lack of clean water and food. The article states nothing like that. I personally think it scary that our government can come in and take 2 babies away from their parents because of a messy house. I was too lazy to empty my dishwasher last night before I went to bed. I sure hope nobody tells on me!
i agree. There is a difference between filth an mess. However, having the house a mess is a safety issue. If you are paranoid, laundry, and toys left on the floor can be a tripping hazard.(especially Legos)

Health and Safety Codes and Abatement of Dangerous Buildings Code. As a code retired official, you can never imagine the inside of some homes I delt with. The piles of raw garbage stacked so high the rats and mice are living in the house and going next door to visit the neighbors. Many homes had 20 to 60 yards of raw garbage when cleaned out. Floors so full of dog and cat crap it has turned white and fleas look like black pepper on the beds. Be it Mental or Meth or lazy the children have no choice. It had to be really bad to of taken the children.

In the future of The New World Order a messy house will be OK. Its called population control. They will bring back the Plague. Rat shit, Bunny raisins, and Frog Slime will prevail. The Black Death will help to cull the local peons. First to get infected will be the illegal immigrants. Next will be anyone without the minimum amount of Bancors in their account. We know who you are. Its gonna take more than that to put out the lights on ol Nexra Blevins.

Welcome to the machine. Freedoms bye bye, police state HELLO!!!! Many customs and practices in our country and around the world seem distasteful to me. That is no reason to condemn or jail people and certainly no reason to take their children. Remember that you stood by and did nothing when they get around to ramming in YOUR door.
