Arresting the parents seems extreme. How about a mental health check instead. When their house gets clean they get the kids back, but as appalling as the house may be, is this really a crime?

Along with the mental evaluation they should also treated to a mandatory spay and neutering!

Oh Please! The point of this story wasn't to make people feel sorry for the landlord! Most people wouldn't. I feel for the 2 kids that had to live in the filth. If a landlord truly cared about their property, maybe one visit in 6 years might have shown him/her what a dump it was. Poor kids.

I'm a land lord and I have good renters with three dogs and a cat. I have 21 rescued cats and a pit bull all fixed. Our homes are kept very clean. I agree that these people should be fixed and the kids taken away. There is no reason to volentarily live in filth. Just plain lazyness.

I'm not sure how messy the house was, nor do I care, the kid where healthy. I grew up in a messy house, and turned out really healthy and just fine mentally. This is just another example of government getting to evolved in our personal lives. Another waste of taxpayers money.

From the article:"Police say they found so many piles of clothing and garbage in their home that officers could barely walk inside. A city worker had deemed the mess an immediate risk to the residents' safety.

The couple's sons, ages 2 and 4, appeared to be healthy, but were taken into protective custody. "

Ok heading says "messy house" BIG difference between messy and filthy. Also the article can only say the children "appeared" healthy. Obviously they need to be checked.

This place would have to have been FILTHY for this kind of intervention, one would think. There are people that live in FILTH! You would not drink a glass a water in such a home and no child should be subjected to an filthy environment while growing up.

I completely agree! Unless the kids were being abused or neglected, the gov. needs to stay the heck out of people's personal business. I wonder what law they broke. Is it against the law now to be a slob?

Really? Kids taken away because of a mess? There are plenty of reasons people live voluntarily in filth. The same reasons people are compulsively clean or germaphobes. The answer is....people are different. There are lazy people, go-getters and everything in between. I would really like to know exactly what law this couple broke. I could see if there was feces or urine in a childs bed or maybe a lack of clean water and food. The article states nothing like that. I personally think it scary that our government can come in and take 2 babies away from their parents because of a messy house. I was too lazy to empty my dishwasher last night before I went to bed. I sure hope nobody tells on me!

The kids appeard healthy, still taken away. That is disturbing. I also said ,essy, npot mention of animal droppings or things that would really be a health hazard. Now, the kids have to deal with trauma of cps, possibly foster care (no guarantee that will be a safe environ), to say nothing of costs involved Think all involved would be far better by hiring housecleaners, requiring parents to do a few time management and organizal classes and moving on.

Where is the law that say's anything about a messy house being against the law. Now that said as long as there were not urine dirty diapers, roaches etc. Kids looked healthy? Then I would maybe look into suing the the city/cps for overstating maybe the obvious after all the facts are out. Government imposing there right on you.

CPS has way too much control, plus they lie. Have been trying for 2 years too get nephew out of system. Foster mother is friends with social workers, so everything goes her way. Plus she filed De Facto Parent Statement with false information and they know it and do nothing to her, so that gives her access to all of the letters we write or anything else. Don't believe it when CPS says they try to place the children with family. We are in the process of filing a complaint on CPS with the attorney general. The Sacramento Bee back in April did a investagation on CPS in Sac. They are really a corrupt dept.

My family is going through the same exact thing. CPS has admitted they screwed up big time and we have family members who want to take him. But oh well. I posted this a few days ago and they removed the entire article. No censuring with this paper. Not!!!

We have at least 3 family members that have been approved for over a year. My niece has guardinship of his brother and has been approved, but CPS keeps him in the system. They promised the foster mother that she would be able to adopt him and now they have to keep backing her to save face. They won't even acknowledge that she perjured herself, or lied under oath. I filed a complaint with the Police Dept. on the perjury, but if you read on line they very seldom do anything about perjury. Very Frustrating!!!

We are going to our 388 hearing on the 17th. They promised this foster family the same thing. My sister has been there since the beginning and CPS told her she lived to far away and refused for 51 weeks to send her a placement package. Now the baby is 18 months old. And bonded with this family. It makes me sick. CPS needs to be brought down a peg or two. Good Luck. We had to get an outside the county attorney because we do not trust anyone here

Thank You, Good Luck to you too. We have a hearing the 24th in Plumas County. I agree some of the social workers need to be brought down. They have way to much power. I had also filed several abuse complaints on this foster mother back in 1998 tru 2003 and they say there are no complaints against her. Now I see why people take their children and disapper. CPS is definately not for family all politics and money.

I do believe that CPS used to be a good thing. Over the years and with money restraint it is job security to keep a child in the systme. And they bounce them around from worker to worker. I saw my grandson the other day for the first time in almost a year. It is so sad. They refused to let me see him even though they told me I have not done anything wrong. Then when I did get to see him I had the state adoption lady sitting in there the whole hour I got with him and I brought hime two little cchildrens books and they had to be approved by CPS before I could give them to him. I have news for CPS. This family is not going away. We will fight to the bitter end to get this baby back with loving family. We have recently contacted the assemblyman and hed said this is not the first time he has heard bad reports about CPS in Tehama County. We have only begun to fight

Sounds exactly like what we have been going through. We had the case moved from Plumas county to Glenn County, but it was obvious that Plumas County was pulling all the strings. Then they got it moved back to Plumas County where all of the foster mothers Friends in CPS are. I went on line and filed a complaint with the Attorney General, plus mailed them a copy. This foster parent is a total physco, but really good ar manipulating. Like you we will not give up on him, he is 10 and when he was placed into CPS they did not contact any of the family, even though there is family living in the same area and CPS knew where to contact the father and grandparents and neglected to do so. I really want to nail CPS, foster agency, and the foster mother on this, because they have all broken the rules. We have alleged that she is sleeping with my nephew and no one even looks into it. If that was alleged agaist me, I would have CPS and the Cops knocking on my door. GOOD LUCK!!!!
